@traumatini im all for people defining themselves however they want, but i generally do not see the need to use the word with an already established definition to mean something else entirely, friends with benefits come to mind as a pretty clear choice

@yourcryinghost yes that’s the disagreement i had with the last person LOL the queer community does a lot of things that go against textbook definition! we have he/him lesbians too and just roll with it bc the lived experience is more important than what the dictionary claims life should be

i read this pretty exclusively as her telling him to be honest with his feelings of what he REALLY wants, that shane/jane isnt a casual hookup but an emotional romantic connection. she’s trying to tell him “you don’t want me (or anyone else anymore) because your heart is taken”

@traumatini doesnt this go directly against the literal definition of the word platonic that states no sexual relation? platonic sex sounds like an oxymoron. also svetlana is not a part of queer community and i do not think she considers them having sex a part of this practice

oh that’s a cultural thing i’ve disagreed with other HR fans on haha so we can agree to disagree! In my personal experience in adult queer community spaces, platonic sex between really intimate close friends is a very normal thing. It’s just something to satisfy physical needs, being done with someone you trust intimately and feel safe with but dont necessarily have to feel romantically interested in. That’s why I read them 1000% platonic!

@traumatini they never really had a platonic relationship because theyve been having sex since they were teenagers. and i guess its just a matter of perception since i do not consider her potential romantic feelings to be such an out of this world idea and i do sense them in this scene

i just never once saw her as having romantic feelings for him at all, i read their relationship as entirely platonic so i don’t get any hurt or disappointment towards herself from this scene at all 💀 she’s sad for him that he’s putting himself through hell bc he cant accept his own feelings but that’s all i got, i dont think she involved herself in the equation in the slightest

@eldritchblast21 @rszanovs exactly! the show is nuanced and i dont really understand the insistence on denying the show that and pretending that whatever strays from the fandoms canon is wrong or bad. its clearly meant to be ambiguous on sveta's part and its fun to have multiple reads on the same material
