@yrechtman Dropping 20, gaining 10. You’re 10 lbs in the black!
English

In the year leading up my wedding I lost ~20 lbs with diet and exercise. After the wedding I stopped and gained back 10 pounds in a couple months. Where’s my WSJ article.
The Wall Street Journal@WSJ
While nearly 18% of U.S. adults have taken a GLP-1 drug for weight loss or to treat a chronic condition, about half of people will stop taking it within a year. Often, they don’t understand what is likely to come next. 🔗: on.wsj.com/4dCkbia

@lessin @iamjakestream I often don’t have cash but I do try to. Was something I was taught to do growing up
English

@yrechtman @iamjakestream so you still tip in hotels? i haven't done that in a decade / thought norms had changed on that...
English

@iamjakestream Sure but $20 bucks to clean my room a couple times seems fine to me
English

@iamjakestream No I wouldn’t. That’s why it’s a consistent rule of thumb not pegged to the cost of the room. But my point is that “the land of 30% tips” is either irrelevant or proves my point.
English

@yrechtman You would base hotel room cleaning tip on the cost of the room? What’s the reasoning for that?
English

@ColinRogister Feels that way but they were down 2-1 to the hawks
English

@iamjakestream Tipping $10/night on a $300+ hotel room seems pretty reasonable to me but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
English

@iamjakestream How much is the hotel room in question? $20/night?
English

@yrechtman I forgot you live in the land of 30% default on drip coffee.
English

@jbarro @Tyler_A_Harper This is obviously true. IPA with food is a psyop

In which I make the case that Miller Lite is the anecdote to the decadence of a professional class that constantly chases novel gustatory experiences and has come to confuse this empty, hedonistic quest with being cultured.

@iamjakestream When I was growing up it was $5 so $10 just sort of seems reasonable now

@matt_slotnick And taking the premise literally: 9-5 hours for a high income job is even more exceedingly rare. Truly blessed.
English

a 9-5 corporate job that pays $400K a year is like hitting the cosmic lottery. you have a higher quality of life than almost everyone that has ever lived in the history of the planet earth

This might be a hot take but I know someone at meta who makes $400k a year and is quite literally capped at that number for life - likely will never get a promotion strong enough to change that. 9-5 until they’re what, 50? This is not living. No matter the salary.

@JasonrShuman Well then sure but that’s a much narrower less dramatic claim than “blue chip PE manager has never heard of AI”
