Agudath Israel is horrified by the attack at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan.   We are grateful to the security guards who quickly stopped the attacker, potentially saving many lives. This attack underscores the need for heightened security measures to protect Jewish communities and ensure that houses of worship are safe havens, not targets.

Agudath Israel of America expresses its deep appreciation to @POTUS for his bold and decisive actions earlier today in Iran, and we offer our heartfelt prayers for the success of this vital undertaking. For more than forty years, the Iranian terror regime has called for “Death to Israel” and “Death to America.” Their nuclear ambitions threatened not only Israel, but all countries and US assets in the region. Iran is the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism and has used its proxies like Hezbolah, the Houthies, and Hamas to murder innocent Americans, Israelis, and citizens of other countries. Iran did not hesitate to fire hundreds of ballistic missiles towards civilian targets in Israel last year and again today. The ruthless regime has also massacred tens of thousands of its own citizens, which is why the death of the Ayatollah was celebrated in the streets of Tehran and across the world. The upcoming Jewish holiday of Purim celebrates the downfall of those who rose up against the Jewish People in ancient Persia nearly 2400 years ago. We are reminded how the key to the miraculous salvation was the heartfelt prayers of men, women, and children. While prayer is always powerful, our sages have taught that it carries special power during the Purim holiday season. We call upon the Jewish community to unite in prayer and beseech the Almighty to protect all those on the front lines and in harm’s way in Israel and across the Middle East.

I buried my father yesterday. My dad was joy, pure and simple. I try to live by his example. Spreading love isn't just a lyric or slogan; it's a reminder of the responsibility we have to help lift each other, always. It didn't matter what room my father walked into, he would bring light into darkness. I don't think it was intentional; it's just who he was at his core. I don't want to be sad, because I want to celebrate him, but he's going to have to wait for that. I'm in his small country town in the Dominican Republic, where hundreds of people have come to pay respects. All with stories of his jokes and how he could never take anything seriously. Everyone fighting about who he was closest to, who loved him most.Everyone sad, but there were ripples of laughter all throughout, because all the memories were rooted in happiness and his foolishness. My father wasn't without struggle. He wasn't without feelings of sadness or anxiety. But in his stubborn way he masked it, always taught to suppress his emotions by culture and tradition. A lot of folks will never know the weight people carry. I just hope that his wasn't too heavy and that through time I helped lessen the load. Paying him back for the life he gave me, the peace he kept for me. Gracias papi, te amo. Tu hijo.

Always a pleasure meeting with constituents from @AgudahNews, an organization that is always present & advocating for the issues that matter most to the Jewish community. Encouraged by the strong local support for the HOPE Act as we continue working to confront the scourge of hate in our communities.

Agudath Queens Long Island delegation meeting with @SamBergerNY. They discussed ways to combat antisemitism including the HOPE Act, which would require state agencies and courts to take consideration @TheIHRA definition of antisemitism when evaluating if an act was so motivated.
