It's 31st March here in India. International Trans Day of Visibility. The Trans Bill was assented. The Trans Act has officially been amended now to pathologize trans identities and criminalise all our networks. This is a dark day for trans rights and human rights in India.

Our rights have been taken away on international transgender visibility day no less. History's cruelest joke is being played upon us.

So to respond more precisely, feminism without intersectionality is very much feminism, it is very much how the movement started, with voting rights, education rights, without the movement there is no feminism. With time, those white and savarna feminists built platforms and gathered funds for enabling intersectional feminism. Again, none of these can be your basis for assuming there is such a thing as savarna feminism, and that otherwarya is representing that feminism. Intersectionality requires nuance. Intersectionality much but such broad strokes. Such random mindless throwing around of words without meaning.

sanjukta, ur savarna transphobic ass with all the accreditations after your name is not the torchbearer of any sort of feminism. it’s sad that even with so much privilege and advantage- you could not educate yourself on basic leftist feminist principles.

@sanjukta i called it savarna feminism (not feminism). kindly educate yourself on being an intersectional feminist (including trans women and LC women too). it is not bracketing into identities, it’s taking other identities into consideration. none of us are free until all of us are free.

Feminism is what feminism has been since 1792 (Mary Wollstonecraft). When it gets bracketed with identities prioritized over feminist goals, you get a range of other feminisms, Dalit feminism, Black feminism, these days there are Vedic feminism on which I wrote a paper. What white women started, and what savarna Leftists of CPIM started in the 80s, is feminism. Not anything else. Intersectionality is a great tool to understand layers of oppression and discrimination, not an weapon or scorecard for Oppression Olympics and competitive victimhood. And none of this makes a case for you to go ahead and mindless assume that one random video by one woman on the internet is representing feminism of any kind.
