The Pilliga is ablaze @ChrisMinnsMP @MurrayWatt An area about 9% of greater Sydney has burned & is still burning Rural people there are crying out for more resources. Farmers are using their own crop dusters to fight it Why is there so little media coverage of this disaster?

Traditional Owners have travelled 5000km to Parliament House to unveil a simply extraordinary 13 metre long map of the songlines and cultural places that make up the Roper River in the NT, under threat from fracking, cotton and mining. It’s time for those in power to listen.

Not only do trees on farms support farmers by supplying fuelwood and controlling water runoff, they also help conserve #biodiversity by connecting fragmented wild habitats and protected areas, and conserving #soil biodiversity. #Trees4Resilience #SaveSoil bit.ly/3rglGyw

In Antarctica, I saw for myself & heard from scientists how ice loss is accelerating in dangerous ways. Climate change is wreaking havoc. Fossil fuels are the main culprit. At #COP28, leaders must act to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C & end the fossil fuel age.

Portugal shut down their last remaining coal fired power plant and is fostering a renewable energy revolution. They could be completely renewable by 2040 if not sooner. It can be done. We have the solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate #climate #energy #renewables #go100re

There was this tree in Wales that was 124 years old, it reached higher than a 20 storey building (63.7m (209ft) It was damaged in a storm and had to be felled. Artist Simon O'Rourke carved what remained into this hand as a memorial, a last attempt to reach the sky 📸 Simon O'Rourke @treecarving

It’s a system fail when so many Australians are struggling to pay their electricity bills - while ExxonMobil makes $15.5 bn, Santos 4.7bn, Chevron 5.2 bn … and pay no tax. We need to overhaul how the fossil fuel industries are taxed in this country. abc.net.au/news/2023-11-0…

Tax? Out of 2020-2021 revenue of $150 billion in Australia, 24 Fossil Fuel companies paid not $30 billion, not $30 million, not $30 thousand, just $30. Enough for 6-7 cups of coffee, evenly distributed across the 25 million Australians.

Palestine TV journalist Mohammad Abu Hattab was killed with his family in an Israeli airstrike. His colleague Salman Al-Bashir removes his protective gear marked PRESS on air saying: “We can’t take it anymore, we are exhausted. We are victims. The only difference between us is the time of death. We are killed one after another. And no one cares about the catastrophe or the crime that we endure in Gaza. No protection for anyone or anything. This gear and helmet do not protect any journalist, they are just empty slogans. We are victims, live on air. We are victims awaiting our turn to be killed. Mohammad was here half an hour ago (reporting). Now he lies dead with his family in this same hospital.”

Capitalism is a grotesquely failed political system that makes the lives of most people worse, leaving illness, stress, extreme poverty, homelessness, violence and crime in its wake. In Australia, the figures show the situation is acute. 🧵 (Thx Ian) /2

Lack of corporate competition leads to higher prices and worse service for consumers, lower wages and fewer workplace rights for workers, and often illegal pressure on smaller rivals or suppliers. theconversation.com/flying-under-t… /4

Asked what he’ll now do for indigenous Australians Peter Dutton said that between now and the next election he’ll take advice from Jacinta Price and then formulate policies. One voice. One. Do you get the irony?
