I will continue to say it: The NBA thinking on tanking is completely wrong. As long as you allocate talent by draft, you will never stop tanking. The goal should be for fewer teams to tank for the shortest amount of time possible. The answer to that is obvious: Get rid of the lottery and draft by reverse order. The worst teams get the best players, improve and move out of tank phase. The NBA’s wonky lottery odds has made the problem worse because you get a handful of unlucky franchises stuck in the 5-10 draft range and struggle to improve.

Having marinated on the NBA's tanking fines, it is clear the league used the wrong currency. The better way: For purposes of lottery seeding (not standings), NBA should add "wins" to violating teams. So instead of $500K for Utah, add five more wins to their lottery-seeding total.

No one is arguing against that. No one is like "the Jazz are the worst organization." If anything, I'm surprised because this has been such a high-standard org for so long. LIke if Utah JUST went for it this year? They'd probably be better than Portland. I get why they didn't. But they're a good team with smart people at the top and good talent.

@HPbasketball I’m fine with that, but then we can’t get upset (or at least we shouldn’t) when the haves continue to run over the have nots. Regardless I think you’ve kinda proved my point. The ownership and front office missteps are far bigger than what the Jazz are doing.

"Absolutely no risk at all" as if we don't have countless examples of players missing additional time due to complications before, during or after surgery. You don't go under the knife unless you need to.

Had some front-office personnel bring up this solution to tanking and thought it was a very interesting concept: Teams that are always in the luxury tax deal with repeated tax, so why isn’t there a “draft tax” for teams who consistently end up in the lottery? Could work?
