@banthebbc @BolderThanMost It is literally an anachronistic propaganda instrument of the British Empire. Once the British Empire was lost, the BBC lost its 'raison d'etre'.

The BBC wants to pretend, unreasonably, that the British people fund it willingly, whilst they petition the government to maintain the compulsory TV Licence tax funding mechanism in place. BBC is a stupid state anachronism that has continued to exist long after an initial subsidy for emergent TV broadcast technology in the 50's was required. The BBC doesn't even maintain broadcast infrastructure - that is now long since been managed by a private radio broadcast tech company.

The BBC is truly 'UK state affiliated media' Their board is selected by a formal state body - the privy council and the board then selects the other board members who select the DG. Their funding is by state backed force of the criminal law (the TV Licence tax) - the BBC collects this tax revenue which is then 'hypothecated' back to the BBC - a ridiculous charade which NO ONE accepts separates the BBC from their taxpayer funding. Any way you cut this - the BBC are state affiliated.
