Unexpected forms of generosity: -Being early can be a form of generosity. You wait, so they don't have to. -Leaving something unsaid can be a form of generosity. You don't always need the last word. -Delivering your work on time can be a form of generosity. You make life easier for everyone downstream. -Not taking things personally can be a form of generosity. You give people the space to say things imperfectly.

It is with great sadness that we share that David M. Webb MBE passed away peacefully in Hong Kong on Tuesday January 13th, 2026 from metastatic prostate cancer. David will be missed by family, many friends, and supporters. The family request privacy at this difficult time.

A job that helps make your skills redundant. Mercor employs tens of thousands of white-collar contractors. The catch? They have to be willing to train AI to one day do their jobs as well as they can. wsj.com/tech/ai/traini… via @WSJ

Most prospectuses contain a line so familiar that eyes slide past it: we intend to use the net proceeds for general corporate purposes. When it comes to Strategy, which describes itself as the “largest bitcoin treasury company,” it means more. lseg.group/4s0wmfa

@waitbutwhy a pilot told me lights off is more to save power/fuel/costs than anything else. Not sure how much power lights on a plane actually consume, but 5-7pm lights off screams cost saving to me.

On an airplane currently and would like to register two complaints: 1) It's a two-hour domestic flight between the hours of 5-7pm, and the lights are OFF. It's like fully dark in here. I get that some people want to nap, but it's daytime, and we're adults. People are free to bring a sleep mask. 2) There is no row 13, because apparently we still believe in voodoo number curses. We are such a silly species.

Ozempic exposed something about the moment we are living in: how much of life is performed, how fragile our supposed consensuses are, and how quickly they dissolve once people feel free to say what they actually feel. wsj.com/opinion/ozempi… via @WSJopinion

The US economy just posted 4.3% GDP growth—the fastest in two years. Yet unemployment rose to 4.6%, with virtually no net job creation since April. How can both be true? In today's @IndianExpress, I explore competing explanations and what this American puzzle means for India—particularly on jobless growth and why credible, independent statistical institutions matter more than ever. [This builds on @jasonfurman's excellent recent essay in the @nytimes: nytimes.com/2025/12/23/opi…] PDF here: static1.squarespace.com/static/6558424…

The UN updated its list of the biggest cities after changing its methodology for assessing huge conurbations. Jakarta, Dhaka, Tokyo, Delhi and Shanghai top the list, but connectivity in these sprawling metropolises varies vastly. ft.com/content/4ee586… via @ft
