Cuando le preguntaron al padre por qué lo hizo, respondió: "No podía soportarlo, violó y torturó a mi hijo de 11 años, si alguien le hiciera eso a tu hijo, tú también lo harías". El padre fue sentenciado a 7 años de sentencia a cinco años de libertad condicional y 300 horas más de servicio comunitario, no llegó a entrar en prisión. A los 67 años, el padre dio una entrevista en la que afirmó que no se arrepentía de haber matado a Doucet y que lo volvería a hacer.
