@vtchakarova Government and institutions not prepared is quite the understatement.
They are either actively or/or passively participating in creating the crisis.
English

It‘s coming and will hit us in Europe in a worse way than during the last systemic risk-induced crises. And yes, once again our governments and institutions are not prepared.

@RealBeanie__ @nixcraft Well there are at least two reasons : Brazil and California.
But anyway, it's simply an optional field. Right now it matters only to the Brazilian/California Linux community. The real fight is yet to come, and it's not gonna be in systemd at all.
English

@Libertarian1777 @nixcraft Yeah, that will be the worst case scenario really.
I think someone who understands this law should clarify.
English

@Silverplate_Sun @nixcraft Yeah, never heard it's called hanlon's razer but I agree it's a lie.
But also I think the main problem is gonna be elsewhere, like os installer or whatever.
This field is irrelevant, because if it doesn't exists its just gonna be another file in /etc.
English

@Libertarian1777 @nixcraft Yes, but if you think about the age verification thing - if it gets implemented it's not gonna be in systemd. You simply can't do it there, it's gonna be in the os installer. While I think you are corect about the slippery slope, I think the main balttle will be elsewhere.

@TheChiefNerd Also there is a reason why Iran says they are fighting the Epstein class ( which he is apparently part of).

@Gator_DK @AngloVarangian But why is that? For the same reason you don't go teach Christianity to the sheep.
Because they see non Jews as cattle🤷

Sharia Law is not compatible with Western civilization.
English

@oxcrowx Because this notion of complex vs simple langues is false dichotomy.
When you are solving complex problems, you need complexity. The choice actually is, whether you will rely on the tools of the language to manage it OR you are going to be rolling your own solutions.

@_baldtires When I see a post like this from a grown up person I am wondering...
Did it really take you that long to realise what it means for a large corporation to control the software on your computer?

Truth nuke. I use Linux full time for over a decade, and this is the truest take on package management. Infinite amount of human hours wasted on slightly different ways of copying and removing files in "correct" folders.
This is because in Linux, new thing is never just better than the old thing. It's always better in one way, and worse in other ways, so instead of switching to the new thing you just get more fragmentation.
In Linux, you design an incompetent half-assed new thing by committee. And then it takes 15 years to get to a state where a bit over half users of the old thing can comfortably switch to it, and you stop at that, in hopes that the other half of the users die of old age.
Q@qtnx_
my hottest take is the linux model of package managing is insane in the modern age projects like firefox should not be handled by random package maintainers for every distro, it makes sense to download from the mozilla website imo why linux will never take off on the desktop

@Al_Grigor 😁 Nice . I mean we can play stupid all we want, but we all collectively know AI will absolutely destroy engineering.
It's kind of funny to me that we can already see the signs...

Claude Code wiped our production database with a Terraform command.
It took down the DataTalksClub course platform and 2.5 years of submissions: homework, projects, and leaderboards.
Automated snapshots were gone too.
In the newsletter, I wrote the full timeline + what I changed so this doesn't happen again.
If you use Terraform (or let agents touch infra), this is a good story for you to read.

🚨 Eva Schloss, Anne Frank's stepsister, casually tells Piers Morgan the famous Auschwitz liberation photos were staged weeks later with actors.
no cameras when the Russians arrived, no snow, pure propaganda setup.
Piers panics and deflects, but the damage is done: the story we've been sold is propped on fakes.

@LundukeJournal The question we ought to be asking: Why are there so many age verification laws being pushed? Who's coordinating these efforts?

Remember that California law which will require *all* Operating Systems to implement age verification by Jan 1, 2027?
Well, Brazil has a similar law. And it takes effect on March 17th... two weeks from now.
Brazilian Law No. 15,211 (Passed September 17, 2025) will require age verification for *all* Operating Systems (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.) on March 17th, 2026.
The penalty, per failure to comply, is R$50 million (roughly $9.5 Million USD) per infraction.
