Huge and historic victory for transgender rights in Europe--the European Union's top court has ruled that gender changes issued by one member country must be respected in every EU country. The Court ruled “Gender, like a first name, is a fundamental element of personal identity.”

@k8bushofficial @Dapper_Nes I am personally not for reifying a c1s/trans binary, which only reinforces the idea that one cannot actually change sex (at worst) or exceptionalizes trans people as the only ones who change sex (at best)

i think we should be careful not to equate c1s gender interventions with ours, even if the intent is to educate well-meaning c1s about the medicalization of their own genders. newrepublic.com/article/186752…

@k8bushofficial @Dapper_Nes This shifts the focus away from identities towards an understanding of sex/gender (and its alterability) as indicative of vectors of power, race, and value in a given context.

@k8bushofficial @Dapper_Nes What is uncomfortable is the notion that changing one’s sex is not limited to people who are trans - nor to people on ‘the right side of history’. Who can change sex historically / presently is not simply reducible to a c1s / trans divide.
