I mean to be fair, it was in the era (2021) where the super speedway package was on crack, short tracks were good, intermediates were taken out back and massacred, road courses were entertaining because the car couldn't stop nor turn. I understand why they did that.

@FWRobbins45 @lynchard_daryl You’re missing the point brother. Safety has to roll sooner rather than later. If they allow racing back to the line, then safety can’t roll until every car finishes the lap. Tracks like Martinsville or Bristol aren’t as big of a deal, since it’s a short lap. But Coronado? Cmon

Almost get killed? Let's rewind the clock. No one was going to get killed had the accident happened and it just been the accident on its face. The reason that was so bad is due to the fact that Dale Jarrett decided to loosen his belts and remove his steering wheel on a live racetrack. I love Dale, to be clear, so no dig at him, but that was the real problem that day. If we changed the rules due to every near miss, imagine what the series would look like today.

The peanut gallery ain't gonna like this, but I could make an argument for reinstating racing back to the flag. Much like the yellow line rule, the accidents it actually caused were few and far between. Throw in the fact that we are in 2026 with better technology, and supposedly safer cars (debatable), freezing the field has run its course. It was a knee jerk reaction in the first place to a crash that never happened at New Hampshire, because Dale Jarrett removed his wheel and loosened his belts after crashing while the track was still live.
