Trump is considering axing FEMA, saying states should be able to handle their disasters. The point of FEMA is to help states when they are hit with a particularly catastrophic event – like the LA fires or Hurricane Helene. Having each and every state have enough manpower for extremely rare events is a giant waste of taxpayer dollars.
