@t15k @GaryMarcus Guard rails! After AI generated a pile of code for me, which had to include some GUIDs, it bragged that it generated "new, fresh GUIDs", so everything should be fine. After an hour or so of debugging I noticed that the GUIDs had letters G in them.
English

@GaryMarcus If you're focusing on people who confine their role to "programmers", that's where the misunderstanding is.
Benefiting from AI coders means creating context, guard rails, quality assurance, direction and eval loops.
But if you just want to write code, you're not gonna like that.
English

Why have many programmers gone back to handcoding?
Because with AI (shocker!) it’s….

@MarioNawfal You don't need an apartment in Germany to drive on Autobahn. 🤷🏻♂️
English

🇩🇪 A Czech millionaire hit 414 km/h (257 mph) in his Bugatti Chiron on the Autobahn and walked away without charges.
German prosecutors investigated, then dropped the case, ruling the early morning run on a near-empty stretch posed no proven danger to others.
If you want to legally do the same, start looking at apartments in Germany, the only place on Earth where this is allowed on public roads.

@IvarsLipskis Tātad, pēc grafika atmaksāt ar negodīgi iegūtiem līdzekļiem tomēr var?
Latviešu

Nolēmu atmaksāt savu mega lielo (6000€) auto kredītu pirms laika. Summa - 3500€. Banka prasa pierādīt, ka neesmu līdzekļus ieguvis negodīgā ceļā 🤡🤡🤡🤬🤬🤬🤡🤡🤡
Man trūkst divu zobu.

@ctilley79 @livingdevops Microsoft had its own version of Unix called Xenix but for various reasons it didn't catch on.
English

@livingdevops Unix or linux is technically far superior to anything else created. It’s a shame that Microsoft got all the investment early on.

No disrespect to Linus Torvalds, But Ken Thompson might be the biggest geek who ever lived. 🫡
And almost nobody knows his name.
At 28, he created Unix.
> The OS that inspired every modern operating system on the planet.
At 66, the age when most engineers retire, he co-created Go.
> A language millions of developers love, and used to build most of modern Devops tools like Kubernetes, Terraform, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.
But that is still not the full story.
- Dennis Ritchie built on Thompson’s B to create C.
- Linus built Linux inspired by Thompson’s Unix.
- He co-invented UTF-8, the encoding behind every website you visit.
- He built grep, a tool developers still use daily in 2024.
The internet you are scrolling right now exists because of him. And he did everything without Claude, cursor, ChatGPT.
Ken Thompson. Remember the name.

Kā latvietis un patriots jums teikšu,
ka latviešu valoda var iet dirst šajā kontekstā.
Gara acīm redzu latvieša konkurētspēju ārzemju kolēģim skaidrojot:
- Then I opened mantotie komponenti, and nothing was there.
- You opened what?
Pilnīgi iedomājos RCS Zviedrijas biroja atbalsta komandas sejas izteiksmes, kad viņi attālināti pieslēgtos šādām patriotiskam PC.

🚨 THIS MAN JUST SHOWED WHAT HIS TESLA DOES EVERY MORNING — PEOPLE CAN’T BELIEVE THIS IS REAL
A man films his normal morning routine with his Tesla… and it barely looks like driving anymore.
He unplugs the car.
Gets inside.
Types a destination.
Then he taps “Start Self Driving.”
The Tesla drives itself out of his garage, navigates through traffic, arrives at the destination, finds an open parking spot, and parks itself.
He never touches the wheel.
No steering.
No pedals.
No gas stations.
By the time he steps out, the car already has another software update waiting.
Now the clip is blowing up because people say this doesn’t even feel like owning a car anymore.
It feels like having a robot chauffeur.
Are we watching the moment humans stopped driving… and most people don’t even realize it yet?

@r0ck3t23 “You’ll describe what you want.”
😂😂😂
In 30 years I haven’t met a single user who could coherently describe what they want. The language is not the problem.
English

The most powerful programming language of the future isn’t C++ or Python. It’s English.
Jensen Huang: “Why program in Python? So weird.”
You won’t write code anymore. You’ll describe what you want. If the result isn’t right, you won’t debug. You’ll just tell it to fix itself.
The barrier to controlling computers is hitting zero.
We’re shifting from syntax to intent. You don’t need to know how to write a script to modify a system. You need to know how to explain what should happen.
Huang: “English is the best programming language of the future.”
Prompt engineering is just clear communication with a new audience. How you talk to people and how you talk to machines is becoming the same competency.
If you can articulate what you need clearly, you’re a developer. If you can refine through conversation, you can ship products.
The coder is obsolete. The orchestrator is everything.
The skill isn’t syntax anymore. It’s clarity. Knowing what to build, how to ask for it, and how to direct until it’s exactly right.

@ElefanteTalk @BenRothenberg While I 100% support Ukraine, individual professional tennis players are essentially entertainers. They play for themselves and represent only themselves. However, they are banned from team competitions such as Davis or United Cup.
English

@BenRothenberg very good. it is still amazing to see Russian and Belarussian allowed to play. They excluded from most of all other sports competitions.

When @FT report from India or Ireland, they don’t add a standard caveat, "a former British colony". Yet Latvia is somehow always "a former Soviet republic", despite that by now it is independent for as long as it was occupied by the USSR. (Also, the UK has never recognized Baltics as a "Soviet republic"; rather, Baltic countries were considered occupied by the USSR.) Do it better, @FT!
