Remember when AOC was the skinny, 20-something millennial bartender ? She is now a pot-bellied, middle-aged goblina hectoring her constituents in NYC.
Joey Mannarino 🇺🇸@JoeyMannarino
AOC has been eating very heartily. Those arms are large and in charge.

@stevehou After 8 years in NYC I left for Seoul. My conclusion is that New York sucks but New Yorkers fuckin rule.
English

Ok, this is going to trigger a few people. NYC is not a pretty city. It’s very harsh, its architecture unromantic compared to European capitals, its infrastructure aged and tired. Midtown is just gross let’s be honest. The subway is always dirty and smells terrible. It’s not surrounded by awe-inspiring nature like SF. The food scene is good that’s bc it has a big international population. But tbh it’s very mid. It’s impressive to your average American from a small town or city bc the country is so sparse. It’s really not that impressive to someone who’s lived in international cosmopolitans. I think that every day when I commute to work.
Steve Hou@stevehou
Yeah I disagree. I think rent is high bc the highest paying finance and increasingly tech jobs are here due to agglomeration of human capital and the increasing returns to scale nature of these industries. The cultural variety comes with dense globalized population. NYC is fine.

I hate all east asian writers because of their abuse of this cheap trick. The purposeful Othering of yourself is such an overplayed pathos, kind of like how in comedy, the default routine is always to go with some sort of self deprecation of your own race if you happen to be an immigrant. Ofc, without resorting to this kind of audience signaling, they wont be able to tap into the diaspora-experiences cinematic universe with its consistent fanbase, so what can they do?? Write an original novel from an individualist perspective?? Impossible!

When a soul is truly ready for freedom, life begins to quietly dismantle itself
When God sees how much the heart longs for truth, illusions begin to show themselves one by one so they can be destroyed
The timing and sequence of this is always perfect beyond all measure. Not all at once, because that might destroy you or obscure the lesson
Not too slowly, because then you’d continue to cling and repeat patterns
Instead, illusions are systematically brought to the surface and shattered, in such a way that they go in not just intellectually, but existentially in the deepest part of you
On the surface, this might seem like devastation, loss, betrayal, heartbreak. But this isn’t punishment, it’s unraveling, purification
Something is destroyed that can never be rebuilt and the heart opens even wider
You may not feel it straight away, but you will later
The one who truly loves freedom quickly recognizes that this is exactly what they asked for — the death of all illusion. The breaking of a vacuum seal so the nature of being can reveal itself
Even during the deepest pain and sorrow you can still be mesmerized by the startling and unfathomable sense of beauty to this unfolding
You can find out truly terrible things and find yourself whispering “perfect” to yourself within your heart
You can be awestruck by the exquisite mechanistic perfection and precision to the sequence
Right in the depth of heartbreak, tears can form in your eyes not from the pain, but because it is so impossibly beautiful that reality hit you exactly there, right in the place most in need of clarity
There’s often a sense of deja vu — because immediately you know why, you know what for, and you recognize that consciousness is orchestrating its own liberation outside of time
The yearning to awaken has surpassed all need even for safety, fairness, love, understanding, reward, and all the other final illusions of the wise yet naive heart
And accordingly, life responded with stunning precision
Every heartbreak, every collapse, every hurt, every devastation, every stuckness, every loyalty unreciprocated, every truth not acknowledged, every effort not rewarded, every subtle expectation that found itself defied by time
Was targeted mercy — fierce grace
Not to burden you, but to release you from the illusion of what you falsely assumed yourself to be
Not to end you, but to release you from bargaining
Not to punish you, but to expose the veil
Not to break you, but to reveal that nothing ever needed defending
You didn’t fail in any way
You just loved freedom so much that it couldn’t help but swallow you whole
English

@asdkfjasdlfjd Yeah dude you owe it to yourself to feel that again, for comparisons sake

@zerklingg 8 years ago. Also since the brain doesn't enter REM when you're drunk, you don't technically 'sleep'. I haven't slept in 8 years
