20 May 2026 Doha, Qatar. I had the honor of co-chairing the 3rd Ethiopia–Qatar Political Consultation alongside State Minister Sultan bin Saad bin Sultan Al Muraikhi. Our discussions were constructive and forward-looking, focusing on the implementation of existing bilateral agreements, the exploration of new opportunities and agreed to strengthen joint efforts toward the effective implementation of overseas employment frameworks. In addition, we exchanged views on peace and security developments in the Horn of Africa and the Gulf region, underscoring the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation in addressing shared regional and global challenges.

19 May 2026, Doha, Qatar I am honored to pay a courtesy call on H.E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and held a productive discussion on enhancing bilateral relationship between 🇪🇹 and 🇶🇦. We reaffirmed our commitment to promote mutually beneficial partnership through political consultations, enhanced economic cooperation and increased private sector investment. We also exchanged views on advancing joint efforts to ensure regional security in the HoA, the Gulf region and beyond.

Today, I attended the national summit and exhibition held under the theme "Data Sovereignty for Policy Autonomy," which celebrated Ethiopia's monumental achievement in its journey toward data and statistical sovereignty. The remarkable progress I observed in this sector is highly encouraging. In this era, data is a strategic asset and a foundational pillar of sovereignty essential for building a strong nation-state. Because borrowed data or reliance on external entities cannot fulfil our national aspirations, collecting and analysing our own data through domestic capacity is a critical input to guarantee policy independence. Above all, witnessing data collection and analysis being driven by the knowledge and skills of our own citizens is a source of immense national pride. Furthermore, our focus on data must not only target quantifiable metrics but must also centre on human-centric approaches that bring tangible improvements to the lives of our citizens.

Foreign Minister @GHessebon today received the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Eng. Waleed Elkhereiji, for discussions on bilateral relations and regional issues of common interest. During the meeting, Foreign Minister Gedion noted that Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia enjoy longstanding historical relations anchored in enduring people-to-people ties. He stated that, given the strong interconnectedness between the two countries, they share convergent views on many issues of mutual importance. He underscored the need to further strengthen the relationship for the benefit of the two countries. The Minister also emphasized the importance of safeguarding the wellbeing of Ethiopian citizens in Saudi Arabia and promoting the provision of legal employment opportunities for Ethiopian workers. Eng. Waleed Elkhereiji, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for his part reiterated that Saudi Arabia highly values its longstanding historic relations with Ethiopia and its people. He also noted that legal labor migration is essential in ensuring safe employment opportunities for Ethiopian workers. The two sides also exchanged views on regional peace and security issues, underscoring that dialogue remains the only viable means of finding political solutions to the various conflicts in the region.

I would like to thank all the commissioners who, over the past years, have patiently and professionally worked with a high standard of ethics to advance the national dialogue process and bring it to its current stage. A culture of dialogue is extremely important for countries like Ethiopia. Building a strong civic culture also requires continuous practice of discussion and a mature spirit of mutual understanding. The process so far has demonstrated the great value of mutual listening at every level of our society. The process has reflected the views and discussion outcomes of more than 90 percent of Ethiopians across all corners of our country. At this time, as the dialogue process, which carries significant national importance, transitions into its next phase aimed at producing tangible results, all stakeholders should contribute constructively and uphold a shared, firm commitment to ensuring peace, unity, and lasting stability for our country.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, @GHessebon, is taking part in the BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs Meeting, hosted in New Delhi on May 14-15, 2026. The meeting is convened under India's BRICS Chairship, with the theme: "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability." Addressing the high-level gathering, Minister Gedion underscored the urgent need for coordinated multilateral efforts to build a global order that equitably serves all nations. He underscored, the current global crisis unless resolved urgently will lead to adverse economic and financial consequences and social instability that can not be contained within national borders. 14 May 2026, Addis Ababa I am honored to sign the Host Country Agreement with the Inter-African Coffee Organization, reaffirming our commitment to transforming Africa’s coffee sector. As the birthplace of coffee, Ethiopia remains dedicated to strengthening productivity, value addition, sustainability, and opportunities for millions of farmers across the continent. Coffee is more than a commodity for Ethiopia, it is part of our identity, culture, and livelihood. We look forward to working closely with the Inter-African Coffee Organization, the African Union, and African partners to build a resilient, inclusive, and globally competitive coffee industry in line with Agenda 2063.

The four stamps tell our shared story, from signing the UN Charter in San Francisco in 1945, to deploying peacekeepers to the Congo and hosting the first-ever UN Security Council meeting on African soil. Distributed to 192 countries through the International Postal Union, they are a lasting tribute to a legacy that belongs not to one moment, but to every generation.   We also take this occasion to extend our deep appreciation to the United Nations’ Secretary-General H.E. António Guterres and his dedicated team for their tireless leadership in advancing peace, development, and human rights during one of the most challenging periods in modern history.   The UN endures because nations keep choosing dialogue over division.
