I can’t believe my poor angel of a mother was married to my dad for 50 years. Glad she has peace now. Because he’s a massive jackass.

It's time for a thread about the best album by VAN HALEN — and one of the greatest albums EVER — 1984!

@MyopicEeyore Not filler! This track has a fantastic riff and one of my favorite Edward solos.

It’s inevitable that any album will have filler, and “good girl gone bad” is that. I think it’s about a woman of low morals who sinks even lower, but I’m not sure …

When I started waiting tables (age 18) one of my Mexican colleagues told me all Mexicans eat their steak well-done. So the first time I got a table of Mexicans the dad ordered steak& I said, “well done?” He asked me how I knew how he liked his steak& I stupidly said “that’s how all Mexicans like it.” He got this look on his face but he didn’t complain to my manager

Talking like this rustles the jimmies of a lot of folks but it's the honest truth. There is a reason why for 60 years Americans rejected Republican/Conservative/RW politics from 1932 to 1994. That's because the GOP/Conservatives (I'll use that as a thumbnail term) were experiencing a Jekyll and Hyde ideological split between NeoCons on one hand (Trotsykites like William F. Buckley and Irving Kristol) and old school Isolationists who wanted to pound battleships into plowshares along with a motley assortment of Birchers and religious kooks, etc. And it is no small wonder why your grandparents came back from World War 2, took one look at the Republican Party and decided to vote a straight Democrat ticket until Ronald Reagan came around in the 1980s. What's important to remember is those two factions in the GOP that I mentioned are still around and sniping at each other. Even after the 1994 Republican Revolution. Even after Trump and MAGA took over the party in 2016. Folks can rage and call me names and misread what I'm saying. (This has been happening already) But it is a major ideological battle that is ongoing on the fringes of RW politics this very moment. None of what we've been seeing with Tucker Carlson and the gang is new. We saw it in the 1990s with Pat Buchanan squaring off against George Bush. We saw it in the 1960s with William F. Buckley's feuds against the John Birch Society. And so forth. What is different today is that President Trump has essentially shoved both those competing ideologies to the wings and into irrelevancy. We'll see how long that lasts.

There has been a small faction of Republicans who are ideologically opposed to American greatness. They view our victory in the Cold War and World War 2 as some great sin. They hate our Constitution. They hate our military. They hate our Republic. And it’s been an undercurrent of Conservatism for decades now. There was a certain breed of RWer who were completely one-shotted ideologically over the fact that FDR (who really was a Pinko) somehow won World War 2 and transformed the US into a Superpower with the highest standard of living in history. And they’ve been trying to come up with excuses and conspiracy theories ever since about how this occurred and why it was a bad thing. It is probably a subject I’ll dive into later but the same folks who thought the attack on Pearl Harbor was an “inside job” are the same sort peddling the nonsense about E. Island and C.K. and the You Know Who’s that we see today. It’s an easy way to gain wealth and fame by appealing to the lowest common denominator. Regardless. I think we are all better off without them in our winning coalition.
