This is a throwback to two projects we did on young women's electoral engagement and participation, which were supported by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) in 2022 and 2023. Through these projects, we expanded young women friendly platforms for increased participation in voter registration, increased young women's access to information on electoral and governance processes, and increased the number of young women as registered voters and election observers. We believe that young women's participation shouldn't be limited to elections; there should be continuous participation and engagement in decision making processes. Crucially, we must fully support young women's participation at all levels of governance, positioning them not just as observers, but as key agents of development, driving change and shaping the future. #HerVoice #ThrowbackThursday

Nichollate Ndlovu says raising awareness about political violence is not taking sides, it’s standing for peace, justice, and the protection of every voice. Silence in the face of political violence is acceptance. Speaking up is the first step towards healing and lasting peace #HerVoice

In this audio, Tendai Hombarume reflects on her experiences as a young woman in peacebuilding. She emphasizes that dialogue is at the heart of resolving conflicts. Many disagreements cause more harm when tensions are left unspoken or bottled up, rather than addressed openly. Creating safe spaces where people can speak and listen to one another is crucial. #HerVoice #YoungWomenForPeace #GrassrootsVoicesForPeace

The Girls Table attended a workshop on Citizen Procurement Monitoring Strengthening hosted by Transparency International Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe’s health sector continues to face serious structural and operational challenges, particularly in maternal healthcare. Despite existing efforts to improve access and quality, inefficiencies in public procurement and supply chain management remain key impediments to the delivery of essential maternal health commodities and services. The procurement and distribution of items such as maternal medicines, medical equipment, and supplies are often plagued by corruption risks, limited transparency, and a lack of community oversight. These weaknesses have a direct and disproportionate impact on women especially those in poor and marginalised communities who depend entirely on public health services. Strengthening the role of citizens in monitoring and safeguarding public procurement processes is not just a governance imperative it is a matter of saving lives. Recognising the importance of citizen oversight in public procurement, the workshop aimed to: ✅ Strengthen the capacity of local actors to monitor, analyse, and report on public procurement and supply chain processes related to maternal health. ✅ Deepen citizens’ understanding of how maternal health goods are procured and distributed. ✅ Enhance the ability to identify corruption risks and inefficiencies and build confidence in collecting and interpreting procurement data. ✅ Strengthen advocacy by improving documentation and use of formal referral mechanisms. ✅ Bridge the gap between community-level monitoring and national-level policy reform and accountability. #HerVoice

Let's join hands in the fight against teenage pregnancies. Teenage pregnancies are often not a result of an informed choice but of power imbalances and social norms that continue to devalue girls' rights and futures. Let's protect the girl child. #BreaktheCycle

"Universities must provide mentorship programs, gender-sensitive counseling services, and flexible academic policies can help bridge the gap between ambition and achievement for female students. As we talk about the joys and achievements of university life, it is important to also speak about its hidden struggles especially for women. Their stories and challenges must not be masked by surface-level success."- Nichollate Ndlovu #HerVoice

For many women, especially in rural areas, disposable sanitary products are prohibitively expensive. Reusable pads offer an affordable alternative, helping ensure menstruation doesn't disrupt education and reducing school absenteeism. These pads restore dignity and control for women and girls who might otherwise resort to unsafe alternatives like cloth. #HerVoice

Unpaid care work disproportionately falls on young women, limiting their time, energy, and opportunities to pursue leadership roles in politics, business, and community spaces. True gender equality begins with recognizing and redistributing this invisible labour. #HerVoice

TGT participated in the Youth Power Action (YPA) dialogue hosted by Amnesty International in Bulawayo. The dialogue focused on critical issues surrounding Internet Access and the Shrinking Civic Space in Zimbabwe, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities within the digital landscape. The first session, facilitated by Sihlobo from Community Podium, focused on the Shrinking Civic Space, where she explored the impact of the PVO Bill on civil society, emphasizing how it restricts freedoms and undermines civic engagement. The discussion also highlighted the consequences of foreign aid cuts and recurring internet shutdowns, which significantly hinder the operations of organizations and limit their access to digital platforms. The second session was led by Shaun from CITE and covered Internet Access and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Shaun stressed that internet access is a fundamental human right crucial for promoting freedom, justice, and self-expression. He highlighted how technology and AI can be harnessed to promote human rights, increase civic participation, and drive digital movements across Africa. Rather than focusing solely on content creation, Shaun encouraged participants to build sustainable movements using AI tools. He further called on the government to fund AI programs, minimize internet shutdowns, and address persistent electricity shortages. The final session, led by Hon. Bajila, centered on Internet Governance in Zimbabwe. He emphasized the need to rethink the current approach to activism, advocating for a style of affirmative disruption that embraces innovation and technology to create meaningful change. During the dialogue, participants voiced concerns to Hon. Bajila, urging him to take their demands to Parliament. They called for improved network connectivity in rural areas and emphasized the need to reduce the cost of data, making internet access more inclusive and affordable for all Zimbabweans. In addition, youths urged one another to take responsibility for improving the dissemination of information, especially within marginalized communities, to ensure no one is left behind in the digital age. Call to Action The dialogue concluded with a powerful call to action for young people to remain proactive and stay ahead of the times by embracing digital tools to advocate for human rights and foster a better future. By leveraging technology and AI, youths were encouraged to create impactful movements, amplify their voices, and drive positive transformation within their communities. #HerVoice
