I can’t believe I’m saying this, but ABC may actually be right that The View should keep its equal-time rule exemption. Since I don’t like to torture myself, I haven’t watched a full episode of The View. But based on the viral clips I’ve seen, it looks like a news show. If that holds true for the full program, it should be exempt. However, ABC is wrong to accuse the FCC of violating its First Amendment rights by just looking into whether The View fits that definition. The FCC has every right to investigate. Just like The View has every right – IF it talks mainly about news – to have terrible coverage.
