Illinois is set to return five of its top eight scorers and 62.1% of its scoring from a Final Four team while adding Stefan Vaaks (15.7 PPG) from Providence.
The Illini should be on fire entering 2026-27.

Andrej Stojakovic is returning to Illinois next season, per his agent Drake U'u. Averaged 13.5 PPG and 4.5 RPG last season. Another significant returning piece for the Illini.

Though roster continuity is at an all-time low, the most successful teams are still above average in retention.
All the Final Four teams this year, and 7 of the past 8 have been above D1 average in percentage of minutes played by returning players.
31% was the avg this year.

Some roster continuity stats from last season (data via KenPom)
9 P5 teams finished season outside top 100 - all 9 were outside top 100 in continuity.
3 P5 teams were top 20 in continuity. All 3 finished the year top 10.
8 of the top 10 teams at end of year were top 100 in continuity. Other 2 were 116 & 169.
Iowa was the only team outside the top 250 in roster continuity to make the Sweet 16 (major * bc 62% of their PT was on the 24/25 Drake team so realistically is a ZERO)
Some teams have to reload their roster in the portal, no doubt. But something to note... Continuity tends to = higher end success.
For 2026/27 - Illinois, Virginia, UConn, MSU, Florida some of the high end teams with elite retention as of now.

Illinois redshirt junior Ty Rodgers has entered the transfer portal, source told ESPN. Redshirted the 2024-25 season and then missed the 2025-26 season after suffering a knee injury last summer.
