I am very excited to share my new publication in @SexRoles investigating how Scottish attitudes toward sexual violence shifted following the #MeToo Movement. In summary: attitudes changed, but for some more than others. More below 🧵👇 link.springer.com/article/10.100…

🚨 New paper out! 🚨 We use @EurobarometerEU data to explore how strongly people across the EU reject the “no means yes” rape myth. Gender gaps persist, but shrink with higher gender equality and “only yes means yes” laws. w/ Sara Möser (@unibern) 👉 doi.org/10.1177/237802…

While major social movements like #MeToo may help to challenge harmful narratives about rape, they may struggle to reach vital parts of the population. Movements seeking to change social norms may require targeted strategies to reach more resistant/unengaged groups.

‘Gisèle Pelicot’s decision is astonishingly brave, not least because the culture she is condemning also produced the lawyers who have been questioning her and the journalists covering the case.’ Sophie Smith on patriarchy and the Pelicot trial: lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v46/…

Proud of my supervisee Louis MacPherson, who wrote a very insightful thesis on the "Empty Nest Syndrome". Congrats on the @SociologyOxford Best Thesis award! Using @usociety data, Louis examined whether becoming an empty nester is associated with mental/ physical health changes
