@__silent_ @mweis200 TBF I think that's also conflating with how bad DLSS used to be with it's alternatives. Like v1 was easily worse than SMAA. This AI crap is replacing, not improving and can only improve by doing less.

@mweis200 To be completely fair, DLSS (upscaling in general) and 3D got their share too. But the idea of someone "hating" the analog sticks or more buttons on the gamepad is so AI bro coded I can't

@KayleMain54 @LukeStephens Worse yet, just wait until "stylised" slop filters get applied and we get to repeat this same thing on a loop.

@LukeStephens The people happy about this now will be posting stuff like "remember when games had unique art styles?" a few years down the line. Just complete slop.

You shouldn't be. Listen, I like DLSS. It's a marvel of modern computing. But this? This will make every game look like a crappy AI face filter was applied. It undermines all of the creative efforts of studios that work so hard designing characters and art. Actual abomination.

So proud of DLSS5: Fully generative neural rendering, in real-time, in real games. Mind-blowing realism. A whole new generation of real-time graphics. A decade of continuous research and development. Coming soon to PCs everywhere. 💚

@ModernVintageG Legit every example has terrible lighting that makes no sense in that scene and just ends up looking like a photo shoot with studio lights facing head on. Yet again wasted dev time on temporal screen space pixels rather than something useful like hair or non important physics.

@Brammflakes @billclitton007 It really is design though. Modern maps are just clones of slightly scaled down real places or over balanced with zero variation. I don't want to roam another generic boring building complex in COD and I want third places off center in BF. It's what drives me away now.

@billclitton007 I bet you're 28-35 years old and you're talking about nostalgia not design. Just a guess, I have the same opinion, but I am 33 and washed.

Controversial take for players. It is fairly well known within FPS studios that statistically new maps do NOT bring back old players or attract new ones. I have seen a lot of data to support this. Players believe it is a huge draw, but the reality is that rewarding players time is more important. Battlefield, a franchise I love.. has failed to answer the question “why am I playing this game” for a decade now.

@ActuallyFlamey @Noah6092 @christitustech Beginners either spam next and don't realise stuff is happening or agonise over every option but I'm also meaning more effort should be put into a "default", stuff gets too spread out in this space.

@zombieguy98 @Noah6092 @christitustech i disagree, i don't think it's needed. Limine always gets selected as the default bootloader and Plasma gets selected as the default DE. that should be enough of a hint that that's what the devs probably want you to use imo

@ActuallyFlamey @Noah6092 @christitustech TBF I use and love Cachy but its a huge problem with Linux (often touted as a pro) that there is far too many options for the DE and a perfect scenario for a beginner to have to deal with. The installer should favour one DE and hide others behind an advanced section imho.

@Noah6092 @christitustech Luke from the WAN show chose CachyOS, but for some reason he chose Cinnamon as the DE (???). Still, they didn't show his experience as much as they did for Linus and Elijah.

@kibawooo I don't hate new, its just that old MC was fast changing and had distinct "eras" which is gone now. New stuff just feels inoffensive & additive, like with in reason you can pretty much blend anything together now, which I'm not sure is a good thing.

@BarjiYT @DoctorGester Its very petty and pointless, if you need access to more "in depth stuff" then you make it, regardless of the framework. This cherry picking a list of features that suites your arguments is weak asf and as I said its very common in these exact type of threads.

it's not petty. It's that the features that the vast majority of devs need are there + the iteration speed. If you need access to more in depth stuff then you choose your tool accordingly. ex There are rendering features in Godot that you can't manipulate in Unity and vice versa. Choosing an incredibly niche missing feature and calling it "one of the most basic things" is just pedantic. There is no "best engine", but the gap between Godot and Unity is not as big as people make it out to be for most devs.

Unity’s biggest asset is its assets. I really hate “engine elitism” but seriously, at this point why would anyone but hobbyists, put their livelihood in the hands of this company when they’ve screwed over their user base endlessly. Runtime, Ironsource, weta digital, calling you stupid. Have they added anything useful, or fixed the glaring issues with the engine, over the past few years? I mean a large portion of the community is still on 2019. If you haven’t already, you should try Godot there’s almost nothing missing at this point, you can use C#, and it’s so easy to switch. People just reiterate the “it needs a few more years” but it’s been a few years!! Not to mention, when you look at the current pool of popular engines, who’s the most likely to position themselves as the vibe coding engine? Maybe that’s your thing, each to their own, but for better or worse that’s where it’s going. It’s also nice to use an engine that doesn’t slow down the longer it’s open, or take 30 seconds to load everytime you want to test. Unity used to be my biggest sponsor, they’d fly me out to events. I had all the reasons in the world not to switch. Try Godot.

>Has all the functionalities Unity has >Launches in seconds >Light weight with only 100MB of storage and 1GB of RAM vs 10-20GB of storage and 4GB of RAM >Flexible architecture >No bloatware >Doesn't force you to create an account >fully free What's the point of Unity?

@DoctorGester @BarjiYT I've seen this exact convo so many times now. People need to stop over glazing godot and pretending its feature matching other engines. Such a pointless battle and always so petty when the obvious is pointed out.

@thr33swords @Pirat_Nation You a bot bro? TS is happening everywhere. EU, UK, Australia, New Zealand etc have all made similar moves and looking for more. @raiiskaim @AmeliaERWood Our school had SASS do forced assemblies telling us we will likely never need to pay anything back and a class where we had to apply to 5 unis, which also had a school trip to a uni fair thing. Granted I don't regret it but its crazy to see people re-write history around this.

@SamuelePanzeri Yet to meet a single dev at work that is pro it and the only "Devs" I see online that push it have AI in their bio and are shilling garbage. It serves zero use beyond code completion and sometimes boiler plate if you don't care about what you are working on.

@myles_premium_ The problem is that this model used to work extremely well in the UK, but things have gotten so dysfunctional that its created a loop that applies to all our services of: Higher taxes -> Worse wage -> Priced out of alternatives -> Use inefficient service ↺

The “Open Gaming Collective” was just announced as a group of Linux game-focused projects who plan to work together on “gaming-focused components used across the Linux ecosystem.” A few things to keep in mind: - The “Open Gaming Collective” is spear-headed by a Microsoft employee. - The lead project, Bazzite, is one of the most intensely political projects in the Open Source world (regularly banning users and contributors for wrong-think, aggressive “Code of Conduct” weaponization, targeting children with “Trans” and “Bi-Sexual” cartoons, and more). To call it “woke” would be an understatement.
