What do you think is the right definition of egregious in this context? 1.5 inches off? 2 inches? Baseball has starved us of umpire accountability so this is a change

@CodifyBaseball There needs to be a change in the narrative that all overturn are egregious mistakes. Over the course of the season there will be a lot more 1 inch or less overturns than bad misses.

@ltw0303 @PitchingNinja I think Estabrook did actually make adjustments during the game too as there were some close low pitches later in the game that he did not call strikes. Probably similarly in the 0.5 inch to 1.5 inch range below the zone

@JoezMcfLy I am not sure that I agree that they all want to get 100% right. In years past, I think umps felt like they could call “their strike zone” even if that was different than k-zone. Maybe I am wrong, but that was the only way I could justify why some umps missed so many calls

i think umpires should stop being embarrased by it & be relieved that they are being saved from a ROUGH game changing regretful night. i truly believe these guys want to get 100% right. maybe their perspective should change. some umpires lose sleep on bad calls they made

The Yankees have overturned 5 calls so far. We’re in the 4th inning. They’re all low pitches. Umpire Mike Estabrook is getting embarrassed and also getting yelled at by the Yankees to make an adjustment.
