@SynthPotato If the companies are able to host PC servers with PC sales money they're able to host console servers with console money (they're the same servers if they enable crossplay). It's just a scam at this point.

Hot take: Online gaming should be completely free, this is a completely arbitrary price with no real benefit. There is no "market condition" that should result in what is a free service on PC, to consistently increase in price just because you're on console.

@kiwitalkz I totally understand if they are parents. Otherwise, playing games you didn't work on allows you to keep up with what ithers are doing and what are the current trends.

One of the most fascinating things I have learned from interviewing game devs for over half a decade is the sheer volume of game devs that either rarely play games or don't play them at all outside of work. (one dev told me they haven't played a game in over 10 years, you'd be surprised who it is, given their body of work.) These seem to be the main reasons for this 1. They spend all day looking at a screen so they don't want to come home and look at a screen. 2. They don't want to be influenced by other games 3. Becoming a parent takes up all their time 4. Games have become monotonous homework for them 5. There are so many games that choosing one is too daunting now lol. It is a fascinating phenomenon

Japan’s got like 99.9% cremation rate for a reason tiny country, insane population density, precious land. They don’t have space for endless graveyards that last forever. @gamer_lafan I was very excited for FF X but once I started the game I was thrown off by the poor PAL version. I had a GC and a lot of games had proper 60hrz versions (or very well optimises PAL version like Super Mario Sunshine). I felt the game was so bad that I never played more than 5hrs

Thanks to the massive success of the PS1 and FF7, 8, and 9, the hype for a new Final Fantasy on the PS2 was absolutely through the roof. On top of that, Square showed a real-time rendered tech demo of one of FF8’s famous dancing scenes running on the PS2, and it looked absolutely incredible. Watching that, I honestly thought that once FF10 released, the PS2 would have no real competition left. Looking back now, I feel like this was the peak era of Squaresoft. FF10 was such an incredible game that it almost feels like the company was at the height of its power back then. The graphics, music, gameplay, and even the sad but perfect ending were all unforgettable. I think a lot of gamers consider FF10 to be just as much of a masterpiece as FF7. I also played the remastered version years later, and it was still just as fun.

My last post on Mixtape: This game isn't one you're supposed to stream to people. It's one you enjoy by yourself and reflect on life. There's no agenda. There's no politics. There's not even really gameplay, but that's okay. There's just being able to look back at the moments you grew up with. That's why its so good. We live in a world where people are performative. Where everything we do is judged and reposted, liked, shared... This game brought me back to the times where I spent 30 minutes setting my AIM away message. When me and my friends would wander streets away from our house until I heard my dad whistle. When I wandered out with my buddies in some parking lot to smoke clove cigarettes because we thought that was cool. If you don't want to spend a couple hours by yourself with your own thoughts thinking about the moments that made you who you are... fine. But Mixtape was deliberately made not to make you nostalgic for the 90s, but make you nostalgic for that moment in your life that took place around then. Maybe you were a bit older, maybe you were a bit younger, but the people who grew up between the 80s and early 00s lived in such a unique cross section of technology and humanity. We could disappear for hours and then come back and play WoW with people all over the world. That's what Mixtape does so well. Everyone has moments in their life that they should reflect on. If you choose not to, it's your loss.

I hate to my negative about content here but this is an actual industry plant. It’s ok to like this sort of game, but how it’s presenting itself hurts actual indie games. - real licensed music - massive array of custom assets and cutscenes, fully voiced too - insanely pricey press kits sent out to small and big CCs - presents itself as “indie”. This is not “indie”. This is a refined product that was made for millions. Most likely a medium sized team of 12-30 full time for years. This kind of low hanging fruit stealing + indie labeling hurts actual small dedicated teams of real game devs. There will be actual indie devs that miss out on awards this season because of this extremely well funded AA title masquerading as an indie.

@ManaByte CDPR and Machine Games did work. I think there is enough evidence that a lot of publishers and developers do not spend enough time on size because they do not see it as an issue and treat it like free resource.

The reason for key cards is easy to understand but it gets lost in the outrage engagement simply crying about them gets people. There are two reasons right now. Switch 2 carts at launch were only available in 64GB and due to the faster read speed they were much more expensive than Switch 1 carts for publishers. The Switch 1 had two cart sizes. Up until recently, if a game was smaller than say 32GB on the Switch (which is very common actually), it wasn't worth a publisher to charge more for their physical game to put it on a cart. This is why you see some physical releases of digital Switch 2 games retailing for $20 more, the carts are that much more expensive. Rumors are saying that Nintendo has finally made 32GB Switch 2 carts, so there should be more games shipping on those now. Some games simply are bigger than 64GB. FFVII Remake is nearly 100GB. The 2K sports games are huge as well. There's no way to fit those on a 64GB cart. CDPR and Machine Games worked miracles to get Cyberpunk and Indy to fit on a 64GB cart.

I think Nintendo should seriously consider pivoting back to Switch 1 and bringing some of its Switch 2 games to its older machine

@Chris_Dring @petaco16 @HylianHero98 You are comparing a console that has been out for 10 years vs a console that is 10 months old. The console is trending ahead for the same time frame. Switch 1 already shows its age and no 3rd party developer is gonna follow Nintendo and release their big games there anymore.
