@Mangan150 Fascinating, I live by fantastic mountain bike riding, we regularly exceed these limits, certainly yours and often Attia’s, not for fitness purposes, but for the fun of the rides. Seemingly we’d better off not riding as much, but then we miss out on the fun = dilemma

A single bout of exercise, 4 min at 90% HRmax, increased VO2max to a similar extent as 4 bouts of 4 min, when done 3×/wk for 10 weeks. 1. If you train at high intensity, you don't need long duration or high frequency 2. There are sharply diminishing returns to exercise

@zymph2 @TheAliceSmith @swcrisis I know scientists with a background, even a dissertation, in philosophy of science but who then decided to do real science. They look back fondly and it helps them be critical of socially conditioned rhetoric but has no direct relevance to their daily activities.

It always stuns me how few professional scientists have any knowledge about the history or philosophy of science.

@RobertMCutler @TheAliceSmith @swcrisis I’m neither. I’m a practicing attorney. Law became more fulfilling to me when I took an interest in its philosophy, history and foundations, hence my interest in the subject of philosophy of various disciplines. Most lawyers have no use or time for the philosophy of law.

@zymph2 @TheAliceSmith @swcrisis Birds are the scientists, philosophers of science are the ornithologists. Still not clear whether you are either a scientist or a philosopher of science or neither.

@RobertMCutler @TheAliceSmith @swcrisis In Feynman’s analogy, do the birds represent the scientists? I accept that understanding the philosophy of a discipline is not necessary to its practice. Still seems useful especially when error is encountered.

@zymph2 @TheAliceSmith @swcrisis What seems useful to you is not necessarily what is useful to science. Are you a philosopher of science? That would be interesting. You would lose that bet about the birds.

@RobertMCutler @TheAliceSmith @swcrisis Wisdom imports knowledge of what is true or right, so the philosophy of science is an examination of why the scientific method gives premises bearing on what is true or right -seems to be useful to me. I’m betting birds know more ornithology than Feynman gave them credit for.

@zymph2 @TheAliceSmith @swcrisis Philosophy is "love of wisdom". Science is "knowing". Not the same thing. “Philosophy of science is about as useful to scientists as ornithology is to birds.” – Richard Feynman (It's a real quotation.)

@RobertMCutler @TheAliceSmith @swcrisis Given that the word “philosophy” imports “the fundamental nature of a thing”, in this case, “science”, as a layperson, not schooled in “science”, I too, would believe that understanding the fundamental nature of your job would be useful.

@TheAliceSmith @swcrisis It's not their job, and it's not useful to their job. Your astonishment is akin to being surprised that applied mathematicians are unacquainted vast areas of pure math.

Nixon's first VP resigned so Nixon assigned a new one, Gerald Ford. Then Nixon resigned and an unelected man became a U.S. president. Biden doesn't need to die for Kamala to be president. He just needs to resign. The DNC wanted Kamala all along. Could start a dangerous trend.

The problem is not people being uneducated. The problem is that people are educated just enough to believe what they have been taught, and not educated enough to question anything from what they have been taught. 🧠

@ProfFeynman I think today the problem is that there is an increasing number of people who are not educated and feel entitled to question everything just because they watched a video

@pawlsonliberty @BloodstaindGem @FInseattle Trump is poor at running the government apparatus and bureaucrats are demoralized so it’s a de facto step toward libertarianism. Best I can say for him. With Democrats, the <$ or abolition of law enfcmt is also de facto libertarianism but I don’t trust them to really do it.
