A Scandal for the UAE at the Heart of Europe: European Farmers’ Agricultural Subsidy Funds End Up in Al Nahyan Companies’ Pockets Recent investigations exposing how the UAE ruling family received tens of millions of euros in European agricultural subsidies have triggered growing outrage across Europe, revealing how taxpayer money intended to protect local farmers was redirected toward investment networks tied to Abu Dhabi. The key actors include the European Union, which created the subsidy system to support rural communities, the UAE ruling family that expanded through massive agricultural acquisitions in Romania, Spain, and Italy, and European advocacy groups increasingly warning that what is happening represents a dangerous economic and political penetration of Europe itself. The Emirati role centered on exploiting a subsidy model based primarily on land ownership by acquiring enormous farms across Europe while channeling large portions of production toward Gulf markets. This expansion is no longer viewed merely as agricultural investment, but as part of a broader influence strategy in which Emirati sovereign wealth is being used to secure control over strategic sectors inside Europe while benefiting from weak transparency rules and limited oversight of corporate ownership structures. The evidence appears in investigations tracing dozens of EU subsidy payments to companies linked to the Al Nahyan network and Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth entities, including some of the largest farms in the European Union. Reports also revealed that part of the subsidized production is exported outside Europe, while smaller European farmers continue facing mounting financial pressure and shrinking competitiveness. The result is that the issue has evolved from an agricultural controversy into a wider political and ethical crisis inside Europe, raising serious questions about why European public funds are being used to support financial empires linked to authoritarian systems and massive sovereign fortunes. What is unfolding exposes deep flaws within the EU subsidy structure and reinforces fears that Europe is indirectly financing the expansion of Emirati economic and political influence across the continent itself. the-darkbox.com/i6t6 #UAE #EuropeanUnion #AbuDhabi #Agriculture #Economy #Investment #Politics

Today marks the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. As we honor the 1.5 million Armenians murdered by the Ottoman Empire across modern-day Turkey, Syria, and Armenia, we must refuse to let history repeat itself. In 2020, the military forces of Azerbaijan and Turkey attacked the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh. In 2023, Azerbaijan expelled over 100,000 Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, continuing the genocidal campaign that had begun over 100 years prior. On this day of remembrance, we reaffirm the right of the Armenian people — and all people — to freedom, safety, and self-determination.

Amal Khalil was alive for hours. She phoned her family and the Lebanese military for help. People followed in horror as her colleagues updated the world on what was happening. And yet Israel blocked the Red Cross from reaching her for seven hours. That is stone cold murder.
Natasha Bertrand@NatashaBertrand

"Khalil was trapped alive under rubble for hours, having made a phone call to her family and the Lebanese military for help, Qudah told CNN on Thursday. 'The Red Cross was blocked for seven hours and when they reached her after seven hours, she was already dead,” she said. 'This kind of obstruction of rescue efforts may really amount to war crime.'"

In just one month, these Lebanese journalists were killed by Israeli strikes while doing their jobs. Their voices were silenced, but their work remains. 🕯️
