This picture was taken a few months ago when we found out about the opportunity to buy the land for our new dream home in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We were first in line! All the hard work and research from the past 3 years came down to this moment. We still have a long journey to go, but we're getting closer to making our dream a reality. 🇩🇴Los Angeles

Steam is Resident Evil Requiem’s top platform (@alineaanalytics estimates). Requiem is enjoying the best launch in the series’ history, over 5M sold-in as per Capcom’s official numbers. The success is the culmination of almost a decade of stellar Resident Evil titles, and a terrifying remix of the franchise’s highest highs. It’s a nostalgia free-for-all, and a bloody fantastic game. Literally and figuratively. But the new Resident Evil also underlines an important shift for Capcom. Our estimates show that as of March 4, just six days post-launch, Requiem had sold through 4.3M+ copies across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. Capcom recently announced 5M units typically “sold-in” (shipped to retailers), so our “sold-through” estimates focus only on the sales to consumers – and don’t include Switch or Epic. Still, Steam’s performance can’t be understated: Requiem has generated gross revenues of over $340M across all platforms in under a week, and Steam accounts for almost $200M. Valve’s platform also accounts for 2.3M Requiem copies sold, or 53.1% of the playerbase across Steam, Xbox, and PC (console and Windows). This dwarfs even the PS5 (1.7M/39.5%) sell-through, and leaves Xbox in a distant third (300K/7.4%). Capcom’s PC-first dream is now a reality, and for a franchise that was once the spiritual ward of PlayStation. Capcom’s management has been aiming to do this for half a decade now and has been telegraphing this for months. In its FY25 Q3 earnings, Capcom confirmed that PC already accounts for 55% of its total unit sales across the back catalogue. Requiem proves that if you respect the player’s time, deliver consistent high quality, and fans on their platform of their choice, the audience is willing to show up. It’s refreshing to see Capcom’s flexibility and steadfast commitment to its core paying off. They’ve prioritised brand equity over fleeting industry trends, and in the process, they’ve expanded their user base in a way that feels incredibly organic. 🚨 BREAKING: The House Oversight Committee just voted to subpoena Pam Bondi over the Epstein investigation. 24-19. Five Republicans crossed over. This is massive. Pam Bondi runs the DOJ that withheld Epstein images showing death and physical abuse. That redacted the names of powerful clients. That was caught red handed hiding FBI witness interviews of a woman accusing Trump of sexually assaulting her as a minor. And now five Republicans just voted to drag her in front of Congress under oath. The walls are closing in.

It’s rare in life to know when a chapter is closing, but after 38 years at Microsoft, that moment has arrived for me. I’ve made the decision to retire and begin the next chapter of my life. It’s a milestone that’s given me a chance to reflect on the incredible journey I’ve been fortunate enough to share with so many of you.

@_lobotomyx @Lunayian 100%. The Quest 3 is a pretty powerful portable gaming console, a lot more powerful than the Switch. youtube.com/watch?v=g-iMZg… Can someone look at this running on Quest 3 in 3D and tell me that they don't get it? There’s a huge library of games that could be ported.

@1DigitalReality @Lunayian Yeah idk how we went from early VR being mostly mods of existing games to VR being run solely by people who think that VR gaming should be limited to room scale physics based games or playing flat screen games on a flat virtual screen

I play less and less games these days, so my opinion should be viewed as uninformed, but the biggest error Meta made with its game studios was the focus on one shot blockbusters. There was (and is) a huge opportunity space for progressive and/or live-service adjacent titles.

@Heaney555 @benz145 Any intuition on what this means for Quest as a gaming platform? Lower budget first party games? Focus on free to play? No first party games at all? Scrap all current big gaming projects and point to the Quest 4 as a new reboot for everything?

@benz145 I'm not speculating; I have solid sourcing for what I said above. The lack of competition is a major reason for pulling back investment.

I think what we're really seeing from Meta's cuts and reshuffling of Reality Labs isn't that anything fundamental has changed, but a reflection of the fact that Meta now has real strategic competition from Apple and Google/Samsung. Had none of those players entered the XR market, Meta might have continued along this same course for another five years. The addition of Apple and Google/Samsung to the space has made Meta realize that building a generalized spatial computing platform is more strategically relevant than building a wearable game console. That doesn't mean that gaming in VR is dead. Far from it. Focusing on building a general spatial computing platform means making a more useful headset overall. More useful headsets will have more people in them for longer periods of time. Once people are regularly spending time in their headsets, they will be willing to do more gaming in them because *they're already in the headset*. Think about it this way. The PC gaming market is bigger than any single game console. It's not because PCs are better at gaming, it's because they're useful for *more than just gaming*. And wouldn't you want to own the entire PC platform rather than just a single game console platform? That's what Meta is coming to terms with now. Both Apple and Google/Samsung are focused on spatial computing (the "PC" equivalent platform of XR), and Meta has realized that building a single game console platform isn't going to win them this strategic footrace.

In case anyone's wondering where I've been: I'm just now starting to recover from the most intense illness of my adult life, which struck just as I was to return last week. Today is the first that I can actually think straight or use a screen for more than 30 seconds.

@ben_ferns @Heaney555 Yes, I don’t even need that range of motion, if they can automatically convert 2D games to 3D in a convincing way, I’m more than happy.

@1DigitalReality @Heaney555 similar to apple's spatial photos - you can see in the preview video the actual angles on the nearest building don't change as they should, it just kind of slides around. It does mostly work, but the range of motion they show in the video would definitely break the illusion.
