@strugglesaurus I was 25 and knew folks very affected but still think it’s worse now - but it’s more so culturally, mentally, emotionally, spiritually than expressly financially (yet). But that felt like a boom-bust cycle dip. This feels way more structural, hence why the experience is 10x worse

It was 1999, and a seismic cultural shift was happening. You could feel it in Fight Club & The Matrix. The hope and sincerity the 80s & early 90s were falling out of fashion. A spiritual “meaning crisis” was moving through culture. And it came for men first.

I don’t think people realize how much abuse thrives in environments where appearances matter more than truth.

The musicians are the ones leading the way towards a society that doesnt discriminate people based on how they look… because theyre already in the world of sound, of invisible transmissions

@bromf3 Interesting! Going to dive into these comments, what a juicy request Plantasia was the only LP that came to mind. OMD too, but I think it’s just because Baroque Pop to me is very British. Maybe the track Let Forever Be by Chemical Brothers? More psychedelic than baroque tho

@Bob_Janke Gosh I hope that’s not true - insane musicianship all around across many iterations and George Clinton is a straight up prophet in the guise of a cosmic jester

@TheExtremeMusi1 I listened to Dookie so much, and I think STP was the superior band here but Smash - especially the song Smash - seemed to wake something up in my little tween suburban mind

@fentanylbrownie I’ve noticed this too, and my hunch is it’s related to the overall sense of hopelessness with many in this cohort, which turns into a kind of powerless fatalism that sees nepotism as the only way to reach large scale success

It’s ironic that people have such a sensitivity towards any suggestion that this or that person is some sort of “industry plant” or “nepo baby” when it’s truly never been easier for a dumb/random person to become wildly successful in entertainment.

I’m no fan of Theo Von’s, but I do think it’s funny that’s so many people seem to have these quaint notions about what “being descended from Polish royalty” means for an American guy born in 1980.

@DominoRxxx @daveanthony Pavement’s legendary mythopoetic REM tribute. A molten eruption of a CCR cover from Uncle Tupelo. Choice live cuts from Beasties and Breeders. Patti. And of course that hidden track. Nearing peak ‘90s

@thematrixb0t The “highest Hell / lowest Heaven” is basically what’s said in Islamic/Sufi metaphysics as well if I am recalling correctly

I think I get it now... Earth is the highest dimension of hell and the lowest dimension of heaven, acting as some sort of inter- dimensional way-station, where entities from all dimensions congregate to observe and manipulate humans as they either level up or down in dimensions.
