@WadeMiller The holiday isn't even historically accurate. Many slaves were still owned after June 19, 1865. But they were exclusively owned by Native Americans. I guess it doesn't fit the narrative.

The left has used this to attack the actual Independence Day of this country.
Cornyn helped nationalize something that should have remained only a Texas holiday.
Instead of celebrating the actual emancipation on an appropriate day, Cornyn helped radical leftists activists to nationalize and hijack Juneteenth as their anchor from which to attack the founding and to attack the Independence Day of this country.
Another great example of why primary voters sent Cornyn packing.

As our nation celebrates #Juneteenth, we remember and honor the end of slavery as well as when General Gordon Granger and his soldiers arrived in Galveston on June 19, 1865, to deliver the good news of President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. I was proud to work with the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee to pass a bill establishing Juneteenth as a federal holiday so that all Americans can join Texans in marking this day, which has been observed as a state holiday in the Lone Star State for nearly 50 years.
