@Crumbsareenough

Of fear and love, I fear not that I will die, but that I have come to love; the birds, and the things that are not birds, will perish with me.

@DeadbeatJulie @_deceptionfalls @ExtonSigma I fully agree that it amplifies the gameplay insofar as communicating the story, that’s an excellent point! It’s not “fun”, but it is artistically sound as a choice

Guys when asked "are video games art?" can you bring actual good games as an example and not persona or kingdom hearts

@TheRealRyuddo Very good to know going into it, tyty! Radiant Dawn was ambitious as hell which was a double edged sword, but i cannot explain how hype i was to see the main tellius crew come in on that one cutscene bro. Even my replay had me geeked.

@Crumbsareenough Tellius Duology were so sick. Loved seeing the IP go into 3D. I've definitely played Path of Radiance more times than Radiant Dawn as like you said, it's a commitment haha. Radiant Dawn actually has some Genealogy DNA in it with the large setpieces and inflated numbers!

I need more homies to talk JRPGs with. Or any games I guess but JRPGs for sure. They are my favorite :)

@TheRealRyuddo Sacred Stones was my intro so same!! I thought that and Path of Radiance were peak, Radiant Dawn was alright but bogged, and then the rest of the new gen lost the thead for me. I definitely need to check out more KagaEmblem, genealogy sounds fantastic.

@Crumbsareenough Fucks heavy with Fire Emblem. The GBA era was my introduction into the series and I've played every subsequent game in the series. Recently went back to experience some KagaEmblem and played Genealogy and HOLY DAMN that game is hard but beautifully chaotic. Ys is on the docket

@CloudSt1313 I love this because it was not at all my experience in childhood but replaying it last year I totally felt what you’re getting at. I am however eternally baffled by the triple shock-zoom they do on Link when he is dubbed the hero lmao.

I love all Zelda games but twilight princess is the first game in the series that have given me the same feelings as I had playing ocarina of time and majoras mask

@_deceptionfalls Majora’s Mask, E33, Disco Elysium, Gris are fair arguments. Could see a case for Hollow Knight and Undertale. Shadow of the Colossus is an easy win here.

@_deceptionfalls @ExtonSigma This is true by and large. I will say that 365/2, while samey with bad graphics and middling gameplay, has a central character thesis/narrative that is legitimately artful. It is undercut by the unkept overarching promises you mention, but the main thread still hits despite.

@ExtonSigma kingdom hearts has one really good game which is the first and after that they just edge you with a story that looks like its building up to something great but it never goes anywhere

@linkkling How does it stack for you as Zelda games go? Do the crafting/open world mechanics bother you in that way, or is it just interesting additions to an entry in the series?

breath of the wild did this perfectly. i loved being able to just go find everything and farm everything in the world itself rather than needing to craft

my weirdest game opinion is that i kinda dislike crafting systems no matter what. like just let me buy or go find the final item. making a list of crafting materials and then having to go get enough of each one just for a single thing is so inconvenient
