Part of me is really concerned that a new coach will come in near & convince mgmt they can make Mercer a 30/30 guy They can make Timo. 40g guy agin They can fix Kovy They can make the goalies better And all we get next year is new 4th line wings

This is where we drift apart unfortunately, cause they may be the same size but play at different sizes. Like.. you look at Marchand’s size and weight and you get fooled. You go to knock him off the puck and you can’t. AND he’ll throw cheeky hits. Like.. Theo Fleury was very small but played big. Imo, Nico plays small, Larkin plays big. I don’t think a recipe for success is having two smaller centers, one of whom is allergic to contact (that’s ok bc Jack is amazing) and the other always getting pushed to the ground, wincing in pain. He may win board battles but idk man, just watching him every game since his first, he gets manhandled out there by stronger teams. If we’re gonna have Jack and Bratt, and a version of Timo who only brings that snarl like once every 20 games, we need a more physical 2C. Larkin doesn’t take shit. Hell burn you with speed, he’ll finish his check, he’ll walk the line of dirty/clean and from what I see, does those little things conducive to winning in playoffs. Nico doesn’t really hit, he’s the cleanest player I’ve ever seen, and his defensive impacts are largely overrated. Doesn’t Jack have better defensive metrics? And lastly, I think this core needs a shake up. Almost everyone agrees. You can’t trade Jack. You yourself wouldn’t trade Bratt. Timo has NMC. So who’s the odd guy out? Or are you not on the bandwagon of shaking the core up? Imo you get another American at center behind Jack, a guy who can bring a bit of an edge to his game AND fit in perfectly with the devils fast rush-style offense, now we’re cooking. Sorry for the novel. Just have a lot of points and they’re harder to explain than metrics

I won’t argue with him that Lou fucked us in the last couple of years when he tried to patch a dead corpse but all in all, he showed this fanbase what success was & it’s no wonder why he’s viewed as one of the best to ever do his job.

I hate all the Nico discourse on the app lately. Not surprising, it was Jack discourse pre Olympics and I guess everyone found a new player to blame I’ll be honest, I’m extremely bias. I’ve been open in saying that Nico is my favorite player on the team currently. I saw him get drafted live in Chicago, he’s the same age as me.. was there for his debut, watched him play over 600 games and become captain Like I won’t even lie.. I’m 100% emotionally attached to him as a player, but isn’t that the point in sports? We dream of having homegrown guys who we draft and they go on to have long careers in NJ. Guys who will go on to become Devils legends and win cups with the team I know fans are at the point where they are open to anything to succeed, and I totally respect that. But for me, Nico (and Jack) are special, and are 2 guys you keep at all costs. I promise if this team is going anywhere, they are the ones who will be leading it to success. The team around them NEEDS to improve. The leaders on this team are easy to blame but we need to think deeper than that I think when a new GM comes in this summer, his first priority will be extending Nico long term. This is a guy we should aim to keep in NJ forever. And knowing his character, I’d imagine it won’t be an insane $$ number that NJ will have to hit to keep him. I’m just ready for this to be wrapped up and done honestly

People call Nico the 2C, but he plays the 1C matchups. He's a 100-point center if they take him off the PK and load him up at 5v5. There are no better options in FA. They're not finding one in the draft. There are no internal options. A contending team re-signs Nico Hischier.

@AATJerseyBlog @FreshPastrnak Nico Hischier is a great player but I wouldn’t trust him to lead a pack of preschool kids across the street. Also, he’s about to ask ~11M per and that’s not something I’d do. There’s cheaper options on the market that could do what Nico does. For me, he’s trade bait.
