@theblanketdog Even as a resident, I'm sometimes doubtful of their definition of "try." We drained 11 liters on a para yesterday because they told there wasn't a good window.

Maybe doctors are partially to blame for the cost of Healthcare. I am at a rural site. I was called last night by another rural site and was asked to transfer a patient with possible meningitis to get an LP. I asked if they had tried bedside? No. Will you be trying bedside? No. Well, I'm not accepting this unless you try. The indication for image guided LP is failure of bedside LP. To transfer a patient with possible meningitis because you don't want to try an LP is insane. When I was an intern, we did these all the time. Now, I wonder how often this is happening on a daily basis? Even if it's 5 times across the country at 3k per transfer, that cost adds up.

@TylerBolli37223 @fuqekgs And I can promise you we as doctors hate it just as much if not more than you do. It doesn't feel great having people without a medical background telling us how to do our job and putting roadblocks in the way whenever we try to advocate for our patients.

@DylanLater @fuqekgs I'm not disagreeing with you. I just know there are plenty of people like myself who just dont go to the doctor because you're pushed along like cattle. In no way shape or form does a doctor visit make me feel like a hospital puts patients health before profits.

If only we learned about the root cause in medical school 🙄

@fuqekgs @TylerBolli37223 People don't take care of their bodies. You can't cure diabetes or heart disease with meds. Doctors can preach lifestyle changes until they're blue in the face, but reality is patients rarely do anything about it. The root is poor lifestyle choices.

@TylerBolli37223 @fuqekgs Except the real root cause of the problems in this case is the "patient" went 8,000 miles over on their oil and then blames the mechanic when there's a problem that was nearly all but preventable if they took care of their car in the first place.

@fuqekgs Why wouldn't you? Imagine bringing your car in for an oil leak and their solution is to add more oil. Would you accept that your mechanic never learned about root cause? Just treat the symptoms of a bad oil pan gasket?

Nothing like transitioning to nights, waking up 8 hours before shift wide awake, and unable to fall back asleep...gonna be a loooooooong night

Some docs have a really hard time spending money. They came from little means. They took home $3,500/month for close to a decade in training. And that $3,500 felt like a LOT. I could show them the most spectacular cashflow demonstration proving they can buy that ___________ for cash, no problem. But that's not gonna make a meaningful difference. The thinking, feelings and motivations under the surface cannot be resolved with math alone.
