There’s too much irresponsible chatter going round in anti-imperialist circles about how Delcy Rodríguez and other Venezuelan leaders have “sold out” to US imperialism. Really it shouldn’t be difficult to understand that the Venezuelans are in an incredibly difficult position and are having to make unavoidable compromises in the face of mortal danger. We’ve seen that the Trump regime has precisely zero interest in adhering to international law or the most basic norms of relations between states. It is willing to carry out military aggression and every type of unilateral coercive measure, without reference to the United Nations or indeed the US Congress. There is no textbook for dealing with such a situation. Making some concessions in the name of keeping the Bolivarian project alive is nothing to criticise. After all, none of us have even remotely attempted to build socialism in the face of imperialist encirclement (and yet many of us have made all manner of compromises with imperialism lol). As ever, Lenin has something to say: “Imagine that your automobile is held up by armed bandits. You hand them over your money, passport, revolver and automobile. In return you are relieved of the pleasant company of the bandits. That is unquestionably a compromise. I give you money, firearms, automobile, so that you give me the opportunity to depart in peace. “It would be difficult to find a sane man who would declare such a compromise to be ‘inadmissible on principle’, or who would proclaim the compromiser an accomplice of the bandits (even though the bandits might use the automobile and the firearms for further robberies). Our compromise with the bandits of German imperialism was a compromise of such a kind... “The conclusion is clear: to reject compromises ‘on principle’, to reject the admissibility of compromises in general, no matter of what kind, is childishness, which it is difficult even to take seriously.”

Scottish academic Malcolm Caldwell was a staunch defender of the Khmer Rouge, dismissing reports of famine and genocide as "western propaganda". On 22 Dec, 1978, he was granted a rare personal audience with his hero, Cambodian dictator Pol Pot. He was shot in his hotel room a few hours later.

Cuban Embassy in US@EmbaCubaUS·
Note from the Ministry of the Interior: On the morning of February 25, 2026, a violating speedboat was detected within Cuban territorial waters. The vessel, registered in Florida, United States, with registration number FL7726SH, approached up to 1 nautical mile northeast of the El Pino channel, in Cayo Falcones, Corralillo municipality, Villa Clara province. When a surface unit of the Border Guard Troops of the Ministry of the Interior, carrying five service members, approached the vessel for identification, the crew of the violating speedboat opened fire on the Cuban personnel, resulting in the injury of the commander of the Cuban vessel. As a consequence of the confrontation, as of the time of this report, four aggressors on the foreign vessel were killed and six were injured. The injured individuals were evacuated and received medical assistance. In the face of current challenges, Cuba reaffirms its determination to protect its territorial waters, based on the principle that national defense is a fundamental pillar of the Cuban State in safeguarding its sovereignty and ensuring stability in the region. Investigations by the competent authorities continue in order to fully clarify the events.

@KeepJiujitsuGay Every European country should have a tiny St Pierre and Miquelon ass island outpost in the Americas, it would make for fun trade relations

The EU will never be a serious entity for as long as it allows Balts to use its institutions to pursue their ridiculous grievance politics.

This blood curdling “fuck you, got mine” stance which attacks Cuba for both being “too trusting” (it wasn’t) and “too unwilling to reform” (it wasn’t!) might as well be castigating the 10 million strong barren island for not being China with its 1.4 billion population.

“Selective and strategic engagement” with a polity which has openly declared that it isn’t seeking negotiations or engagement but your complete destruction LMAO Fucking rodent.
Alain Beidou@avispartan1

@TaiyangPK Ok, then it was a failed approach that couldn't defeat its enemies. Maybe you should try a different strategy that has actually proven to work, like China's selective and strategic engagement.

@KeepJiujitsuGay People are rightfully criticising him for not foregrounding the blockade in his “analysis” and his response is whining to his followers about dumb campists

This "tourism is evil" bit is a tired stupid trope trotted out by leftoids here who project their own resentment at tourists at home onto Cuba Are YOU going to get them hard currency? Are YOU going to get them credit? Are YOU going to get parts? No? Shut the fuck up then!
OptimisticRaidersFan@Optimistic24228

Every socialist in the Caribbean that understands production will tell you it was a mistake to use funds for tourism over domestic industry but here comes some western leftist parasite to tell you there was no options.

@KeepJiujitsuGay Armchair critics like A*dres P*rtierra are always comparing Cuba to like China or Vietnam (very different geography, history and trade relations) instead of any other Caribbean country let alone island
