The Golden Tongued Disciple

Sipping on a latte while simultaneously watching a big screen for a Bible verse & listening to a Pastor speak is not cutting it for me. The Pastor is in front of us while also projected to us on a screen.

I stepped down from my position as a “worship leader” today because I felt for a while that it was not where God was leading me. It felt like a vocal competition because I sang in the Youth program with other talented young musicians. The church wants the young kids to use their gifts and talents for the Lord but it felt like a performance and a competition. These kids can really sing loudly and do fancy vocal riffs. I have an old-fashioned vocal style that allows me to sing hymns well and sing opera or some chanting. So I don’t fit in this modern arena. Anyways, the point is that I was expecting people to say they would miss me and that I contributed something good. Instead I got, “That’s fine. No worries.” 🥲 Um okay. Did I waste my time pouring into this ministry to have that response? I know it’s not about me, but ouch. This is why I am interested in something deeper where I can pour into the community around me and they will appreciate it and also be there for me.

@citrusinspector I’m a mezzo-soprano. That’s amazing! I’ll definitely do that once I know that they will accept me. I’m planning to visit one next week. It looks very welcoming. Thank you!

Are you an alto or soprano? Definitely let the choir folks at whatever Orthodox parish you are inquiring know you can sing. We always need more singers especially if its a parish in the slavic tradition. There are few ways to become as deeply connected with Orthodox theology as singing.

@DrFrankTurek No, I tried to one time and absolutely confused the person more than ever. Some people weren’t meant to go out and evangelize that way. Some people are meant to evangelize through their testimony and their lifestyle to the people they encounter.

Happy Sunday! The pews are filled. The Catholic Church is growing worldwide and is being debated amongst our politicians and pundits alike. This is all Good news. America might be saved yet. Christ is King. ✝️

I left for vacation with specific instructions that nothing interesting should happen in the news while I'm gone, and it appears that those instructions were not followed. I'm livid.

@Orthodixie If we’re seen as invaders, I don’t want to visit a parish. I’m already scared to do it but now, knowing I’m seen as that, I’m even more scared.

Many of our parishes are currently being "invaded" -- just be welcoming & patient. Orthodox evangelism is about our own, personal, perpetual conversion/repentance. Ultimately - "All is from God."

I read an utterly amazing "prayer" on the DL recently, the "Litany of Loreto." Often Christians think that such prayers, which barely acknowledge Father, Son, and Spirit, but are focused upon Mary instead, are "fringe" or "extreme." Fact is, they are normal in Romanism, and in EOism as well. How mainstream? Here is the prayer I read as it is found on...the Vatican's official website. Out of all the women of that time and of all time, God chose Mary. She was highly favored by him. There is a lot we can learn from the Blessed virgin if we stop being afraid to look at her life. I haven’t seen any woman in today’s world that comes close to looking like her.

It’s obvious to me that you don’t like Ruslan based on his affiliation to Protestant Christianity. I don’t like Jay based on how he chooses to conduct himself. If he’s a good example of what it looks like to be an Orthodox Christian, then I want to be nothing like him. People like you and him are steering me away from wanting to be Orthodox.

@GT_Disciple @RuslanKD Are you aware of the years of history going back between all these people involved? Or did you just jump in? Jay has met Ruslan in person, hung out, had dinner, and been on his podcast. Is truth more important to you or siding with Protestant/Papist ecumenists?

Many people want to make salvation a reward due to us for meeting a set of conditions, rather than a free gift received by faith. Folks, Jesus met all the conditions for us, so trust He’s done all the work.
