Almost everything RFK Jr says here is wrong. Reyes’s Syndrome is related to aspirin use particularly after a viral illness, but in children, not in pregnant women. High dose aspirin isn’t recommended during pregnancy because it can cause premature closure of the ductus arteriosis. Low dose aspirin can be used during pregnancy. Ibuprofen is not used during pregnancy because of concerns about harming the fetal kidneys. Acetaminophen is considered safe for use during pregnancy. As always, when you have medical questions, talk to your doctor. The Sec of HHS is not a reliable source of medical information.
FactPost@factpostnews

RFK Jr: You shouldn't take Tylenol during pregnancy. But it's better than taking Ibuprofen or aspirin because of Reye's Syndrome. Joe Rogan: What's Reye's Syndrome? RFK Jr: I'm not sure exactly what it does.

James Van Der Beek passed away from colorectal cancer this week. As a GI oncologist who runs a young onset program for people diagnosed before age 50, I wish more people knew this: No person is “too young” or “too healthy appearing” to have cancer.

Be Dr Elisabeth Potter > Princeton molecular bio > crush Emory med school > match into the most competitive plastics residency at UT Southwestern > fellowship at MD Anderson learning to rebuild breasts with a woman’s own tissue > graduate top of the game, DIEP flap queen, 1,000+ cases deep > join big hospital systems in Austin > watch insurance companies nickel-and-dime cancer patients for years > see OR fees hit $30k+ before the surgeon even picks up a scalpel > get the infamous @UHC call *while patient is under anesthesia* asking if she really needs to stay overnight after mastectomy + reconstruction > step out of the OR, fight on the phone, they deny her anyway > posts the video > it explodes > millions of people finally see what doctors have been screaming about for a decade > United sends the lawyers > “delete the videos or else” > she laughs, posts the letter instead, and goes harder > they cut her brand-new surgery center out of network > Redbud Surgery Center, the one she poured millions into so women wouldn’t get crushed by hospital bills > suddenly staring at bankruptcy while still trying to operate > double down on cash-pay transparency > same elite surgeons, same microsurgery expertise > do the $100k+ hospital case for a fraction of the price > same day, same quality, zero corporate middlemen bleeding the patient dry > keep posting, keep fighting, keep winning small battles (Aetna in-network, Cigna in-network, one patient at a time) > turn the whole thing into a movement > be the surgeon who said “if I want healthcare to be different, I have to practice differently” > actually do it > still in the arena > still taking on the biggest insurers in America > still rebuilding women after cancer I’m inspired! The Elizabeth Potter arc is what I hope for all my physician colleagues @EPotterMD @DutchRojas
Elisabeth Potter MD@EPotterMD

If I want healthcare to be different, I have to practice differently. Today at Redbud we did multiple cases in an environment built around patients, not profit margins. We had time. We had focus. We had the right team in the right setting. One patient came to us after receiving a quote of more than $100,000 for her cancer surgery elsewhere. The operating room fees alone were quoted at over $30,000. We performed her surgery today at Redbud, a CMS-certified facility with fellowship-trained surgeons and experienced nurses for a fraction of that cost. Same standard of excellence. Different priorities. Healthcare does not have to be this expensive in America. It’s not easy to do things differently, but it is possible. And we’re proving that one patient at a time.

To Ms. Shirley Raines, thank you. Thank you for being brave enough and vulnerable enough to take your personal pain, then have the audacity to transform it into something MAGICAL. You took a crushing and life-altering loss then used your own grief, resources, diligence, courage, creativity, and persistence to transform an entire community. Thank you, Ms. Shirley Raines. Thank you to your son you lost, for allowing us to borrow you on this journey. And what an exquisite journey you made it. We know you struggled with your own loss and setbacks, but the way you remodeled your energy was magnificent, maternal, and endless. You may have lost your most precious soul, but you helped nurture countless souls that didn't even know they needed you, specifically. You brought a bubbly smile, signature style, and energy that helped make people remember to live and be present. Your joy, passion, and purpose to serve love & empathy is what made you a human firework... Colorful, bold, special, bright, and took up the space with light wherever you landed to glow. Thank you, Ms. Shirley Raines. My prayer and deepest manifestation for your effervescent & boundless soul, is that your son received you. I hope that however you transitioned, you felt the peace, comfort, and joy you brought thousands of people in tenfold. I hope that everything you've worked diligently for, will be continued in the manner & quality of life you breathed into it. May your next journey be filled with rest, abundance, pure light, and the comfort of your son. We didn't have you long enough, but for the time that we were blessed to have you? Shirley Raines, we will continue to speak your name with a smile and the same love you dispersed so eloquently. You did your work. Your work moved mountains, souls, and healed holes in so many. Congratulations on an outstanding shift on this planet. You are one of one. Thank you, Shirley Raines and of course we send comfort, restoration, and energy of clarity to her team, loved ones, and those who will miss her presence.

Through Beauty 2 The Streetz, Shirley Raines gave Skid Row more than food and makeovers, she gave hope. She reminded us that dignity is a human right, no matter your zip code. A Sister to the people. Her impact will live on. Rest in Power, Shirley

My heart is broken. I can’t believe it’s been confirmed that Ms.Shirley has passed away. I’ve been following her for years, in awe of the work she did for the homeless community in LA and then Nevada. We have lost a true activist and icon.

The university cancelled classes for everyone except for the med students. There were third years in even before I was. I’m sorry but med students are not essential employees, they shouldn’t have to risk coming in. Hell they even cancelled classes for the school of nursing 💀

I am simply speechless
Dr. Priyam Bordoloi@DocPriyamMD

Medical horror level: 10/10. 🤯 Imagine dying not because you got cancer, but because your tapeworm did. A @NEJM case report documented a man whose Hymenolepis nana parasite developed malignant stem cells. These tapeworm cancer cells then metastasized into the human host's lungs and lymph nodes. It’s the first known case of a parasite "sharing" its cancer with a human. Medicine is officially stranger than fiction
