Comedy legend Mel Brooks introduced a special screening of “Dolemite is My Name” this weekend - it may have been the highlight of our lives. Mel has been our hero since we were 10 - nobody we admire more. Writer/Director/Producer/Genius. Here’s an excerpt youtu.be/ZJpEiYcEOBU

Kathleen Turner explains why she wasn't into method acting:
"Interviewer: What do you think about the approach of actors like Dustin Hoffman or Daniel Day-Lewis, who famously do all this intense in-character preparation in order to play a role?
Turner: In 'Crimes of Passion' (1984) I was playing a designer by day, $50 wh0re on Hollywood Boulevard by night. Do you think I was going to hang out with wh0res on Hollywood Boulevard and find out what the f**k that was like? I have an imagination, you know. My belief is that all the information I need is in the script. And if it’s not, then it’s not a good enough script."

P.S: Happy 72nd birthday, Kathleen Turner!
Widows Bay is the best TV show of the year, and I genuinely think it has earned a place among the most iconic horror shows ever made.
Why it is the best?
Here's my take 🧵
#WidowsBay
K Callan is killing it as Ruth in “Widow’s Bay.” She turned ninety this year and I’ve loved her since the early 1970s when I saw her play Peter Boyle’s wife in one of the great gritty films of the New Hollywood era “Joe.”
Some pics from Scott’s bday lunch yesterday. Second slide is my present to him - a steel newspaper printing plate from 1949 for a Marx Brothers midnight double feature on New Year’s Eve!!
Evening viewing recommendation? On the Criterion Channel, watch Miloš Forman's THE PEOPLE VS. LARRY FLYNT (1996) in our Starring Courtney Love collection! bit.ly/3PYqAwA
Forman brings his slyly subversive sensibility to this wickedly entertaining, stranger-than-fiction look at one man’s notorious public persona and unconventional private life—starring Woody Harrelson, Love, and Edward Norton.
With Guillermo del Toro’s recommendation, I started watching Apple TV+‘s “Widow’s Bay.” It’s so incredibly good that I couldn’t stop, so I binged through Episode 9 in one go. This horror-comedy, executive produced by Hiro Murai, is set in a cursed island town 40 miles off the coast of New England. Dense fog, violent storms, and all kinds of supernatural phenomena descend upon the town. It’s packed with horror elements, one after another. Fans of Stephen King and horror in general will love it. The pacing is excellent, and the balance between horror and humor is just right. Ironically, the mayor’s tireless efforts to attract tourists reminded me of Mayor Vaughn from “Jaws.” The townspeople are wonderfully eccentric as well, with personalities straight out of “Twin Peaks.” It’s been a long time since a series pulled me in this completely. I can’t wait for next Wednesday’s final episode.
Yesterday I FINALLY got to see the Marilyn exhibit at the Academy Museum! 😱💕
Words can’t express how much more incredible it was than I could have dreamed. You all must go see it if you can!
@Karaszewski The artwork for Spirits of the Dead, from every country & format, just feels misleading. It took me years to finally see Toby Dammit as a kid, then longer to see the rest. The artwork never seemed to match the film(s).
