@maxrushden @guardian_sport @bglendenning @robyniocowen @JohnBrewin_ Would a France v England final be the worst game of football ever played anywhere?
English

@maxrushden @guardian_sport @NickyBandini @markpougatch @bglendenning Are Türkiyë are the ultimate dark horses? Underperform at so many tournaments where they were tipped as dark horses until people wrote them off and then flew out of nowhere to kill this year's dark horses.
English

recording @guardian_sport FW after this game with @NickyBandini @markpougatch and @bglendenning
Any questions?
English

@maxrushden Don't know about you Max but Turkey are my dark horses
English

@maxrushden They weren't good but neither was anyone else, so generally I'd lean towards keeping on the players that you know can conjure goals
English

doing good numbers this. tbf they were both really not good this evening.
Max Rushden 💛🖤@maxrushden
Kane and Bellingham are not playing well. it is not a crime to substitute them.
English

@maxrushden @guardian_sport Who was it that said on yesterday's pod this wouldn't become stultifying like the Denmark game?

Recording @guardian_sport FW after the England game
Questions as we go please x
English

@maxrushden @guardian_sport @marklangdon @PhilippeAuclair @bglendenning Do you remember the heady days of three weeks ago when we were all pleased by the adventurous squad selection by Southgate? Does he remember he brought a whole load of other players too?
English

Today's @guardian_sport FW - recording after these games with @marklangdon @PhilippeAuclair and @bglendenning
Any questions?
English

@maxrushden @guardian_sport @NickyBandini @GeorgeElek @bglendenning If all the first three were to happen and England were to beat Slovenia 4-1, Slovenia and Croatia would come down to disciplinary record to break the tie as they'd be level on goal difference and goals scored
English

@maxrushden @guardian_sport @NickyBandini @GeorgeElek @bglendenning Might be too late Max but I've been doing PERMUTATIONS. I think Croatia can still go through if:
- Turkey beat Czechia
- Portugal beat Georgia
- Denmark beat Serbia
- England beat Slovenia 3-0 OR by four clear goals
What makes me think the last criterion will be the hardest...
English

@bglendenning @maxrushden @guardian_sport @archiert1 @JohnBrewin_ @mrewanmurray Fair. Though there are nerves in Italy. But always hard to tell how much is pessimism and how much is superstition.
English

Here’s the latest @guardian_sport football weekly with @archiert1 @bglendenning @JohnBrewin_ and @mrewanmurray
theguardian.com/global/audio/2…
English

@maxrushden @guardian_sport @archiert1 @bglendenning @JohnBrewin_ @mrewanmurray ...meaningless game between Spain and Italy could have consequences, especially if Italy lose and find themselves having to get something against a desperate Croatia in the last game to guarantee progress.
Three teams may of course still go through, but it's far from certain.
English

@maxrushden @guardian_sport @archiert1 @bglendenning @JohnBrewin_ @mrewanmurray Albania and Croatia, both on one point after two games, fail to win against Spain and Italy respectively in their final games, meaning the team in third would have a maximum of two points and would almost certainly be heading home. Equally, even tonight's supposedly...

@LovableJim @giulio_mattioli welcome to northern and eastern europe

This has always puzzled me in the difference between Germany and the UK.
You see a lot more people drinking in public in Germany, but you see a lot more people *drunk* in public in the UK. How does that happen!? 😆
Nic Houghton@40PercentGerman
The difference between German & British culture: UK - if I go to my child's school concert and drink multiple beers, the teachers think I have a problem. Germany - if I don't bring cash to my child's school concert, I can't buy the beers sold by teachers, which is a problem.
English

@giulio_mattioli I'm just speculating. But now I live abroad I can see how shocking it is. My small hometown late on a Friday is carnage every single week, the like of which I haven't even seen in Italy when they've won at football...
English

@LovableJim Yeah good point it's probably more spatially concentrated and therefore visible as well
English

@giulio_mattioli ... Drinkers end up in locations and time periods with like-minded people where drinking is the sole activity and objective, then at the end of that period get turned out onto the street.
English

@giulio_mattioli In terms of venue, though... I feel like British authorities' responses to problems with alcohol have been successive attempts to limit where/how/when you can drink, which just results in a sort of kettling....
