@MJHibbett yeah I thought it was fantastic, and that's where I read about it, but it took me a couple of years to get acting on my thought "ooh, someone should do a visual for that and more people will hear it"

@TomChivers @sergeantdixie having spent 20 seconds imagining a monkey typing, I reckon they'd mash the keyboard rather than being able to randomly pick a letter with equal probability, thus creating letter clustering related to key position. Yes I know this isn't the point.

@sergeantdixie the study assumes only the existing world population of chimpanzees, for some reason. I don't think the monkeys are infinite, usually: one version went "that a half-dozen monkeys provided with typewriters would, in a few eternities, produce all the books in the British Museum."

This study was scooped by Richard Dawkins in 1986: For a monkey to randomly type METHINKS IT IS LIKE A WEASEL, "the total age of the universe so far is a negligibly small quantity, so small as to be well within the margin of error for this sort of back-of-an-envelope calculation"

@estellecostanza I dunno, but a quick read of her Wikipedia page suggests she's had somewhat melodramatic relationship with reality for a while

'I made a promise to Esther Rantzen' eh? What? 'I made a promise to Bill Oddie' 'I made a promise to Bob Carolges and Spit the Dog.' 'I made a promise to Norman Collier' Give me strength.
BBC Politics@BBCPolitics

"I made a promise to Esther Rantzen before the election that we would provide time for a debate and a vote on assisted dying," Keir Starmer says "I'm very pleased" that I'm able to "make good" on that promise, the prime minister adds bbc.in/3ZRTjWd

Anyone got an idea for a B3ta image challenge? We're probably looking for something vaguely Halloween-y if you want a starter prompt.

@jayforeman People who say George is the best songwriter are contrarian fools. Yes, there's no question he wrote a handful of bangers but he didn't write 60 of them.

What’s your #unpopularBeatlesopinion ? I think the harmonies on the chorus of Yellow Submarine are rubbish and ruin the song. (*especially* on the third time they sing “yellow submarine”)

@20thcenturymarc I'm furious. You should only be excited by meeting pop stars who were big when you were 14, thus Keir should be getting backstage with Captain & Tennille.
