Regarding the push for commuter rail, a concerned resident asks: what study has shown that ridership will justify either a bridge or tunnel. "Tri-Rail has been underutilized for many years. Brightline has been popular but hasn’t shown high commuter ridership."

@theNextJacob @Susannah_Bryan In November, ridership twice topped 14,000 weekday passengers for the first time in nearly three years. They have more capacity and we believe they will achieve expanding their usage beyond 14,000 daily passengers. Dave Dech and team are doing a great job.

@Susannah_Bryan @HelloFLAnews Great way to explain, totally daily vs peak hour. Capacity is a whole conversation. Together we can make our transportation system work, but we have to be willing to work collaboratively and respectfully.

@HelloFLAnews I just spoke with @mpogreg. He tells me it’s true. Around 14k people ride Tri-Rail a day but it was designed to handle 40k people a day. Brightline doesn’t always release ridership numbers, he says. So that’s hard to measure.

@Windy96817529 @Susannah_Bryan The long term plan is a connected system in multiple locations, providing both north south and east west transit corridors. So many (multiple billions of dollars to be spent) options for transporting people in Broward are moving forward.

@humantransit @VictorDover Not yet. Transit connection in Merida is under construction and Cancun is being planned. Cancun station will connect to airport directly, via electric buses, currently under construction. Lots to discover.

Got a tip that #BrowardMPO officials met on a Saturday with @WarrenSturmanD4, a developer and a lobbyist/campaign consultant about train tunnel vs. bridge debate. Sent MPO a query by email. MPO official calls, leaves message. Texted him saying I prefer answers in writing.

They provide construction services, it’s called MTECC it’s not the MPO. Our rules are online if you’re interested. I’m going to talk to our attorney to see what we need to do on our side.

Greg, a quick search of the MPO website shows a Nov/Dec 2022 agenda item to accept Broward’s ethics ordinance dealing with lobbyists. It might be “uncomfortable” but the ethics ordinance (included in your agenda) is crystal clear when it comes to lobbyists. Did your committee approve the item last year?
