San Francisco’s absurd permit appeal rules allow any person to gum up things like emergency demolitions of unsafe structures. The old Coit Liquor building in North Beach burned years ago. It’s an eye sore & dangerous, but some insist this burned out husk needs to be “preserved.” No — it needs to be torn down & replaced with housing & retail, which will be so beneficial for the neighborhood. And San Francisco needs to reform its charter to put a stop to these frivolous appeals. Thank you @DannySauter for your leadership.
Danny Sauter 李爾德@DannySauter

659 Union Street Update: Emergency Demolition Orders were issued last week to safely demolish the remaining walls of the structure in North Beach. Work began, but a few days ago one individual filed an appeal. This suspends work until an appeal is heard, sometime in next month

@ManBanality @Scott_Wiener I do not prefer either. Scott Wiener authored laws that deprive people of the ability to rebuild their homes in Pacific Pallisades, and leaving them vulnerable to losing their land, altogether. Scott Wiener is pure, unalloyed evil.

@sneako Which one? The autopen Joe Biden? The Joe Biden that shit his pants in front of the Pope? The Joe Biden that fell off his bike? Maybe the Joe Biden that couldn't form a sentence for most of his presidency? You choose.

We can have good confidence that I'm not wrong based on history, understanding of atmospheric dynamics, resilience of natural systems, etc. Thing is, any one of us could be wrong about many things we don't fear. A rogue extrasolar asteroid could wipe us all out next week. At least we can work to accurately understand the things we can know about now.

We haven’t seen atmospheric CO2 levels consistently this high in 14 MILLION years. We’re in so so SO much trouble, & pretty much every politician & journalist has just decided to ignore it. No time to wait. #ActOnClimate #climate #energy (graph by Dr Thomas Ronge)

@MikeHudema @KathMorrow90 A big jump in CO2 like that over the last century implies a little more than 1° C of warming come out more in the Arctic, Less in the tropics, more in dry places, Less in wet places. It's important, but it's not a big catastrophe.

@SandyofCthulhu This is because Hollywood writers are gays and nerds -- or both -- and yes, they are savagely bullied in rural towns. Even in very liberal countries, it's not unusal for gays to be face violence in small towns.

One of the dumbest Hollywood film ideas is that "outsiders" are disliked and distrusted in small towns. At least in the West and South it's not true. Your neighbors will be over at your house helping you move in your furniture, inviting you to church, bringing a casserole for your supper. Maybe it's true in New England, or outside the USA, but where I've seen new people move in, the "new guy" is the most popular, the "new girl" is considered the hottest. And so forth. I think the idea comes from Hollywood writers knowing absolutely nothing about real small towns except their own Los Angeles neighborhood prejudices. Note: this doesn't apply to a new guy who showed up by walking down the railroad tracks; i.e. a hobo. It also doesn't apply to a huge group that arrives all at once, since that upsets the status. Those have been true since Neanderthal times. But though we might balk at having a thousand Haitians suddenly moved to public housing next door, if just one or two Haitian families moved into a small town neighborhood, the folks would be intrigued.

Russia: Kremlin regime continues to cull thousands of cows in Novosibirsk. After the cows are stolen & injected with a paralytic without euthanasia, cranes hoist them by one leg and dump into piles as cows remain conscious, freezing, and then burned alive.

Until Democrats acknowledge their own problems, stop complaining about Republicans. Democrats are blocking the spending bill, causing massive lines at the airports and leaving defense unfunded. But YOU DON'T CARE, DO YOU? You're blind. Totally, utterly blind to your own party's incompetence and corruption!

President Trump granted a full pardon to Jewish nursing home operator Joseph Schwartz after he served just three months of a three-year sentence for a nearly $39 million fraud scheme. Federal prosecutors said that Schwartz refused to pay payroll taxes that had been withheld from employees’ wages across 11 states. Schwartz reportedly paid $960,000 to lobbyists Jack Burkman and Jacob Wohl to secure the pardon from the White House. Follow: @AFpost

@OvermanBridge @ConvoswColeman @coldxman @tylercowen Basically: marxism = all struggle is material class struggle vulgar liberalism = only individual rights matter my high IQ intersectionalism = individual rights only matter if affected groups are empowered to defend their interests as victims of unfavorable treatment.

Actually I have an honors philosophy degree and have read lots of Marx, Frankfurt school intellectuals, feminism, Black feminism, critical race theory, etc. I know exactly the connections I am criticising. While you can only regurgitate what? Talking points from Breaking Points?

When is “wokeness” actually right? @TylerCowen: “wokeness” can be useful in countries where basic rights are lacking, despite its overuse in the U.S. Its value depends on context.

@OvermanBridge @ConvoswColeman @coldxman @tylercowen "Intersectionality is a concept that explains how different aspects of a person’s identity—like race, gender, class, sexuality, or disability—overlap and interact to shape their experiences, especially with discrimination or privilege." Is literally the antithesis of marxism.

@OvermanBridge @ConvoswColeman @coldxman @tylercowen No. Cons have always fought against any attempt by marg. groups to bring attention to their problems. Period. They hate gays and brown people, but they can't say that, so they label social liberals as communists instead, because it's easier to present them as enemies that way.

Let me fix it for you: conservatives will automatically criticise any social movement that places the marginalization of those groups at its center - and demands special rights and privileges for them by calling it "social justice." LOL blood libel connected to Stalin, for describing the philosophical foundations of Intersectional identity politics as neoMarxist... I think this is actually an admission instead of an accusation.

You are fighting a strawman in your own head and committing a hasty generalization about 'conservatism.' Neither Tucker Carlson nor Andrew Tate represents all conservatives. The majority of conservatives advocate for individual rights for everyone — women, gays, straight men, etc. — precisely because rights belong to individuals, not identity groups.

I just explained all the relevant connections, can you read? "Intersectionality takes the same oppressor/oppressed theory from classical Marxism (which is exclusively focused on class), and applies to various other non-class identities that are intersecting, with evil capitalism at the heart of the web of oppression (along with its white supremacy, patriarchy, hetronormativity, etc) which needs to be overthrown for oppressed groups to be liberated. It is the same theoretical framework as classical class based Marxism, just expanded to replace "oppressed class" with "oppressed identity groups" (in which class is one of many axis) - thus being termed neoMarxism."
