Congratulations to my sister, Anita Kiki Gbeho for her appointment by Secretary-General António Guterres as his new Special Representative for South Sudan and Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). Kiki served with dedication as a Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General in Somalia during a particularly difficult time, and I was privileged to work with her and her team as President of HirShabelle State. Her empathy, professionalism and dedication will serve the people of South Sudan well! I wish her the best in her new role.

Djibouti Elections 2026 IGAD’s Election Observation Mission, led by H.E. Mulatu Teshome, former President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and joined by the IGAD Deputy Executive Secretary, H.E. @MawareSo, intensified preparations for Djibouti’s 2026 Presidential Election. The Mission held consultations with the Committee of Ambassadors at the IGAD Secretariat, engaged with the African Union Election Observation Mission, met with Djiboutian Civil Society Organizations, and held discussions with CENI Djibouti. These efforts were complemented by training sessions for observers ahead of election day. Paid a courtesy visit to the IGAD Chair of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Djibouti, H.E. Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, at his office in Djibouti. We discussed the prevailing regional situation, as well as the organisation’s strategic priorities. We agreed on key steps forward and on the need to strengthen coordination to advance peace, stability, and resilience across the region.

The eighth anniversary of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration signifies a key shift in Horn of Africa diplomacy, notably the strengthening partnership between Ethiopia and Somalia, centered on shared goals, economic integration, and stability. 🇪🇹🤝🇸🇴
