@karrisaarinen @WillHobick This has always been my problem with material design — good in theory but in practice it leads everything to Be the same, limits you to the prebuilt components as a guide etc.

Material Design is some kind of masterclass in creating design for random goals instead promoting good design.
Material 1: “We want to everyone to use these exact components, patterns and colors.”
→ Uh oh, now Outlook and every email app looks like Gmail
Material 2: “Guys, please do something different. Go pick few more colors. Here is the formula.”
→ Damn it, why does everything still look the same.
Material 3: “What if… everything looked like a cartoon? Do any shape, color, size. Make it emotional. Express yourself in each screen. Let’s go! PS. Please use purple and pink.”
→ Lets hope they go for it this time and we can keep the Google design solid

I never really considered @Webflow to be a tool for Designers. It has for me always been a tool for those weird people that can design and code. As a freelancer or company-of-one, this is a pretty common thing to do, design and code. Usually (in the days before Webflow) it resulted in a mediocre design with perfect code or a perfect design with mediocre code. But in big agencies, this is not a role that existed prior to Webflow. A designer would design and a developer would code. Those two planets never collide. We have been living for 10 years in this universe with Webflow and I feel that those two planets now share a moon. And on there, we have people who do not call themselves designers or developers anymore. It is a new species. And some of them, like me, used to live on the design planet and have since stopped doing any design work. I am still not 100% sure what my job title should be, for now, I have settled on Webflow Developer. I feel that Visual Developer sounds too much like “reading with pictures”. And I do know how to read, just as I do know how to code.
