Rephrasing a post from earlier bc some people thought I meant “I hope boomers die off”. To clarify, I mean that there is a clear, generational divide on the topic of how to deal with Russia. People who grew up with the memory of the Cold War and a real fear of nuclear war are easily persuaded by the mainstream media’s insistence that Russia is the world’s enemy and too many of them seem unwilling to consider our new reality: Ukraine, money-laundering, and NATO are entirely problematic. Polling shows that the Silent and Boomer generations overwhelming support meddling in Ukraine whereas younger generations do not. The point I was making (albeit poorly) is that there will be a major shift in public policy when the silent gernation and boomers are no longer in control of world affairs. Maybe “die off” sounded a bit harsh. But fear not: my generation will die off too and it will similarly lead to a shift in global attitudes and trends.
