INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION PRESS STATEMENT INEC CHAIRMAN HAS NO ACCOUNT ON X, DISREGARD PARTISAN FABRICATIONS The attention of the Office of the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has been drawn to a malicious and coordinated campaign of calumny circulating on social media. The false claim alleges that the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, has, in the past, endorsed a partisan post on the platform X (formerly Twitter). The Commission wishes to state categorically that this allegation is entirely baseless, a total fabrication, and a figment of the imagination of its purveyors. For the avoidance of doubt, the INEC Chairman does not own or operate any personal account on X. He has at no time engaged in partisan commentary, nor has he ever associated himself with any political leaning or activity in his private or public capacity. This contrived X post is a desperate attempt to impugn the integrity and neutrality of the Chairman at a critical period when the Commission is focused on significant electoral reforms and preparations for upcoming polls. It is a needless distraction designed to stir public distrust in the electoral umpire. Beyond this partisan mischief, the Commission is aware that cybercriminals have been on the prowl, utilising fake social media accounts in the Chairman’s name to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians. We wish to place it on record that several of such fraudulent accounts had been identified and reported to security agencies in the past. This latest fabrication is merely a continuation of a criminal pattern aimed at exploiting the Commission’s profile for illicit gains. The Commission will not fold its arms while the character of its leadership is being assassinated by digital imposters and mischief-makers. We wish to notify the public that we are working in close collaboration with relevant security agencies and cyber-intelligence units to track and identify the individuals or groups behind this identity theft and misinformation. Let it be clearly understood that the Commission will ensure that these imposters face the full wrath of the law. Identity theft and the dissemination of deepfake or forged social media interactions are criminal offenses under the Cybercrimes Act. Those responsible for this mischief will be tracked and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others who believe the digital space is a safe haven for criminality. The general public is hereby urged to disregard this falsehood in its entirety. We will continue to disseminate official information regarding the Commission and the Chairman’s activities only through our verified institutional channels and formal press statements. The Commission remains undeterred and fully committed to its mandate of delivering free, fair, and credible elections for all Nigerians. E-Signed: Adedayo Oketola Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman Abuja, Nigeria. 10th April, 2026

There's this woman who comes to help me with laundry every two weeks. She always brings her 4-year-old son, who plays with my daughter (same age). They watch cartoons, and I bring out toys, books, and her bicycle for them to play with together. Since he started coming, he’s destroyed so many things: my daughter’s big truck toy, building blocks, books, bicycle handle, and today he tore a letter out of her alphabet mat. I’ve lost count. My daughter doesn’t destroy stuff like that, so I’ve been patient, thinking “he’s just a kid.” But, today I calmly told her: “Please, next time don’t bring your son. Find somewhere for him to stay, because I can’t keep letting things get spoiled.” She immediately started giving me attitude and carrying on her face. Now I’m thinking, if she can’t come without him, I may have to stop giving her the work. Please, have I done anything wrong here? Be honest.

You recently built a house for your mum. She's very happy & goes to inform her pastor about it, so he can grace the house-warming ceremony. The pastor prays & prophesies that God showed him that your mother should gift him the house as a donation to the church & that you should build another one for your Mom. Your mother agrees with the pastor's prophecy and takes the house documents to him & donates it to the church. A day to the proposed house warming, she informs you of her action. What would be your reaction?

Incase Professor Joash Amupitan thinks he is denying that account in front of his kids 😂 Observe with me The 2FA procedure of the email registered to the now denied X account, brings you a certain phone number that ends with 99 Now, take a look at the phone number on Amupitan’s CV and what it ends with. Even his other email, which is an institutional email of UNIJOS happens to be the authentication backup email. Is this mere coincidence??😏🤷🏿

Yesterday, I honoured the invitation of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation at the launch of its landmark report titled “Strengthening the Nexus Between Democracy and Economic Growth in Nigeria.” The report and the robust panel discussions that followed did not just present data; they reiterated the necessary truth that we have failed in critical areas of development: health, education, and pulling our people out of poverty. Over the past decade, our democratic progress has weakened while the economic well-being of our people has continued to decline. Consensus thinking from the event is that our leadership recruitment process must change for democracy to thrive. The recruitment must be based on competence, capacity, compassion, character, and commitment to serving the well-being of the people. And for it to thrive, our institutions must be strong, independent, and accountable to the people. We must rebuild trust in our institutions, restore discipline in Leadership, and ensure that governance translates into measurable improvements in the lives of Nigerians. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

Never in the history of Nigeria has the military fought themselves before. In secret or in public. It has always been one military. Either Army, Navy or Airforce, it's one military. When did we condescend to this level. Where did we get it wrong? Army and Navy fighting in public 😧😧 This is unbelievable.

Let it be known, they track random Nigerian who posted video, but no ISWAP or Boko Haram posting on tik tok and Facebook. Terrorists cannot be tracked but normal citizens can be.

A Call to Reflect: The Death of Brigadier-General O. Braimah The moment I heard of the killing of yet another soldier, Brigadier-General O. Braimah, who was killed alongside other army personnel in a Boko Haram attack at Benisheikh, I was quickly reminded of what other countries commit to when it comes to rescuing their endangered soldiers on the battlefield. Such unfortunate incidents serve as a clarion call for all of us to reflect more deeply on the value we place on the lives of all citizens, including those who stand in defence of our nation, and on the urgent need to strengthen our collective resolve in safeguarding them. May God grant his dear wife, the families of all the fallen soldiers, and indeed all those who lost their lives in the incident, the fortitude to bear this painful loss. May their souls rest in peace, in honour of their supreme sacrifice for the nation. -PO
