If you want women's sports to survive securely you can't hinge it on the "charity" of billionaires. What if they decide to cut off that funding? What if the people that have invested in expanding the WNBA decide they'd like to make money or fold? It is important that the WNBA find a way to end up financially sustainable. Raising player salaries so the best female athletes can focus their lives on the WNBA and not have to spend time on offseason leagues, other jobs, etc... will help with that. But the WNBA losing money isn't irrelevant to the long term conversation.
