@NoobieMatt Sorry, also my personal experience. I know how frustrating it can be!

After weeks of no progress, I opted to drop my treadmill speed today from 5 to 4.5 mph. That was a hard decision - like admitting defeat. But I was able to jog 3 intervals at 4 mins each, rather than only 60-90 secs. And I was able to finish with a 1 min run at 5.5 mph.

@NoobieMatt It takes a long time to do that and if in Z2 for many hours a week you’ll get there. If you overshoot to Z3 or more, you never build that base up. I can recommend some reading material if you’re interested.

@RunMedic I just hoped I would be further along. Maybe not fast, but faster than 5 mph.

@NoobieMatt It takes a bit for HR to increase but if you’re not using a chest band ECG type you may have better response with one.

Can you tell when I was running my intervals? Interesting that higher speed/less time (5.5 mph x 1 min) had a smaller impact on HR than lower speed/longer interval (5 mph x 2.25 min). Also, I have a long way to go!

@999_Caitlin I’m a PhD candidate paramedic research scientist sitting in an ambulance right now. My friend Daniel Patterson PhD works a road shift each week too.

Does anyone know of a UK or international #paramedic who has a #PhD and is regularly working both in #research and a non-specialised patient-facing #ambulance paramedic role on a substantive basis? So not thinking bank or urgent/critical care paramedics. #researchparamedic

@armyemdoc It’s interesting to me, does it matter? There are known error rates but many systems rely on them. Trauma registries require manual abstraction. EHR data for race/ethnicity are unreliable IMO. microsoft.com/en-us/research…

EM intern tip of the week #5: There are 3 main reasons why we chart, and why you need to get it done in real-time... 1. To communicate with other medical personnel 2. Billing and coding 3. Medical malpractice An estimated 41,000 patients die annually within 7 days of ED discharge. A well-documented chart completed in real-time is the single strongest defense you have. doi.org/10.1016/j.jeme… #emergency #emergencymedicine #criticalcare #icu #elderly #resident #residency #intern #medicine #student #meded #medx #medtwitter

I would like to officially coin the term "science beer goggles" Noun: This term is used to describe a study that you believe carries scientific value, yet gets rejected more times than you care to admit. Example: You remember that study I finished up a year ago? It's been rejected by the editor from 4 journals now and still isn't published. I must have a case of science beer goggles with this one.

A word about that photo. Yes, I am not doing very well at all. Yes, they are saving my life. My wife took photo and video of my resus. She said that she knew I would want it if I lived. Boy, did I marry the most wonderful woman ever!!!!
