Took my 11-year-old daughter to a checkup today.
The nurse asked me to step out of the room.
I politely said no.
She said, "It's only for a moment."
I replied:
"My husband and I don't leave our children alone with anyone, including medical providers. Anything you need to say can be said with me here."
She looked annoyed and left.
The part that stuck with me?
As soon as she walked out, my daughter thanked me for staying.
Her eyes got huge the moment the nurse asked me to leave.
Maybe I'm overprotective.
But I'd rather be present and unnecessary than absent and regret it.

I asked my boyfriend if he wanted a juice, and he said, "I don't know."
So I made myself one. Then he asked, "Where's my juice?"
I told him, "You didn't say you wanted one."
His response? "Well, I didn't say I didn't want one."
At that point, I told him that if a 3-year-old can clearly say whether they want something or not, then he can too.
If he can't give me a simple yes or no, I'm not going to sit there and guess what he wants. I'm not a mind reader.

@Amakundi001 Bro had no business being in that abandoned warehouse at 2am but the mission was bigger than the fear 😭😂

Got my nails done and I go to pay and the lady asks me cash or card. I tell her card and then she tells me to hold on and she looks something up and says for my total they charge $10 additional to use card, which is crazy cause it’s illegal in NYC to charge to use credit cards. I’m not paying $10 to simply pay them for a service so I walk next door to the atm and hand her the payment in cash. She asks me for tip and I say no thank you, ya know cause she just tried to rip me off for $10.
Tell me why she starts yelling at me like at the top of her lungs that I need to give her a tip 😭. I walked out the store but I’ve never been so happy that I didn’t tip someone in my life. The entitlement is crazy, tip culture is definitely out of control.

@lizzkelly7 @Demo4fhs That burner phone part would have me checking every security camera in a five mile radius immediately 😳

Every Saturday night, my husband and I hired Sarah, a sweet college student from down the street, to watch our toddler, Leo. She was a dream. Every time we got home, she would leave a detailed, handwritten note on the kitchen counter:
“Leo ate all his peas. We read three books. He went down at 8:30 PM without a fuss. - Sarah xoxo.”
One Sunday morning, I was cleaning out Leo's diaper bag and found a stray note from Sarah from three weeks ago. I smiled, glancing at it.
Then I noticed the handwriting.
I ran to the kitchen and grabbed last night's note. The elegant, looped cursive on last night's paper didn't match the jagged, left-handed slant on the older note.
I dug through the drawer and found five more notes.
There were four completely different styles of handwriting. All of them signed “Sarah xoxo.”
I pulled out my phone and called the number we always texted to book her.
A gruff, older man answered.
“Hello?”
“I’m sorry,” I stammered. “I’m looking for Sarah?”
“There’s no Sarah here,” the man said roughly. “Look, lady, you’ve been texting this burner phone for months. I told my associate to just keep writing the notes so you’d stop asking questions.”

My old manager had a habit of starting feedback with “I want to be really honest with you.” Everything that followed that phrase was always the opposite of what she said to your face in regular conversations. We started dreading that sentence. It meant the version of events you had been operating with was wrong and you were about to find out how wrong.

@jaaaycore A degree gets you a job
An education gets you a mind nobody can take from you 🔥
English

Go to university, but go for the right reasons.
Education isn't a gun held to your head: it's a weapon in your hands. Go not because you're afraid of not getting a job but go because you love to learn, because you're excited by ideas, because you believe that education is important for its own sake, and when you get there, pay attention, read everything you can get your hands on, cram yourself with words and figures and ideas, because that's the one thing they can never take away from you.
