We build bitcoin nodes from refurbished computers. Looking forward to serving the bitcoin community by helping more people serve bitcoin from their own nodes. servingbitcoin.com

@bitcoinwell I love this analogy! A bitcoin node = weights & measures for bitcoin.

1/ You bought the hardware wallet. You hid the seed phrase. You think you are sovereign. You are wrong. Self-custody is only half the battle. If you hold your own keys but don't run your own node, you're still trusting a third party. Here is the reality. 🧵

@kucoincat We refurbish 7-year-old PCs into Start9 bitcoin nodes. We make pruned nodes (via the included 256 GB SSD) or full nodes (replace with a new 2 TB NVMe). Last year, 2 TB was a lot less expensive. But you can do it and they are very capable full nodes.

My 7 year old pc synced my bitcoin node in 3 days and a few hours, but plebs (aka me, I am plebs) will never be able to run a full node because of spam

@ProofOfMoney Right on, I just buy it and move it to cold storage. I don’t even know how to run a node.

A nation can’t MAKE Bitcoin to fund a war. It can’t TAKE Bitcoin to punish an enemy. And it can’t FAKE Bitcoin as long as you control your keys (and run a node).

@Airbtconline Still confused as to why some people chose to store monkey JPEGs on Bitcoin, a peer-to-peer electronic cash system that is designed to be a decentralized and open global monetary network.

@decentmoney2009 @venorusprime Please stop using bitcoin to store non financial data on volunteers’ hard drives without compensating them. You now know the harm to node runners and that the behavior is not welcomed. You are, however, welcome to use their freely-provided infrastructure for financial TXs. ✌️

@decentmoney2009 @venorusprime ₿ is being used as money. All payments are being routed through Bitcoin and Lightning nodes that are being voluntarily administered. You too could buy and run a node to help … - route ₿&⚡️ payments - build a global decentralized monetary network - store monkey JPEGs (🤦‍♂️ /s)

@decentmoney2009 @venorusprime What are the incentives to buy and run a node that stores someone else’s nonfinancial data in system that was designed to be “A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System”?

@venorusprime @ServingBitcoin You’re optimising for the wrong thing The right incentives are already in place to use block space efficiently Bitcoin doesn’t require consensus changes for monetary maximalism It requires demand for block space for monetary use cases That’s where effort should be placed

@decentmoney2009 @venorusprime People pay only the miners. No one pays node operators, which buy the hardware, storage, and network infrastructure required to run the bitcoin network. Many want to support bitcoin when used for financial TXs. Now you know many don’t want to store your spam for free.

@ServingBitcoin @venorusprime It’s not free. People pay a fee to commit transactions. And if you don’t like the idea of content you don’t like being on the Bitcoin blockchain, don’t run a node. That’s the nature of Bitcoin’s neutrality. That’s on them for not understanding how it works.

@decentmoney2009 @venorusprime As a node runner who is paying for the disk space you are using for free, will you please be respectful and limit you usage only to financial transactions? If so, thank you.

@decentmoney2009 @venorusprime Many node runners are saying, “please use bitcoin and the free disk space I’m providing only for financial TXs. Please be respectful. Please don’t litter.” Spammers appear to not care and continue to be disrespectful to how nodes runners would like for their storage to be used.

@decentmoney2009 @venorusprime > (How does it) make operating a full node more resource intensive Financial TXs consume less Disk space and Network bandwidth than nonfinancial TXs containing images and data. D&N cost money. Node runners volunteer their hardware to run a financial network; not a spam repo.

@venorusprime > makes operating a full node more resource intensive How? > it also creates a social disincentive to run a node People who run Bitcoin nodes typically don’t care about “social disincentives”. That’s kinda the point That post you linked is retarded virtue signalling

Today is the day that the option to pay in Bitcoin goes live for 4M Merchants using the @Square POS by default. This will have no effect on the price today but will become instrumental in the years ahead

@marsspitsbarz Well, both are oversimplified memes. “Nodes are getting expensive” Moore’s Law is long term. Short term, RAM and SSD prices are 2x to 3x from 1yr ago. “Prices vs BTC to zero” Long term, an observable trend at ATH. But prices will never reach zero. Nothing will be “free”.
