I finally think AI4 is holding Tesla back, replacing it with Blackwell will get Tesla to better self driving performance extremely fast. Some reasons below. 1. Need more RAM for any agent or subagent workflow in self driving. Alternative is wait for frontier MoE to get better with intelligence density. 2. No HBM in the architecture means cannot ship meaningfully bigger models with better performance. 3. Things which can be solved in pre training has to now be solved in either fine tuning, post training or RL, because Tesla cannot just ship a bigger driving model. Tesla is still ahead with manufacturing and just state of the art just moving faster, and dataset, but this advantage is also disappearing with time as waymo scales their self driving. This is the problem with designing your own silicon, if you don’t rev up with merchant silicon like Apple does, you’re totally and completely screwed by just transistor density.
