PARENTS of kids using AI: Did you know AI models can run locally, offline, on your computer? This introduces all kinds of dangers to kids. Be aware! Common software for running AI models locally includes LM Studio, GPT4All, Ollama, and Jan. Other software, like ComfyUI or Swarm UI, allows running AI image/video generation models offline. I highly suggest monitoring your kids' computer usage, helping them avoid potentially dangerous, unmonitored AI software like this. If you have any questions, reply here! Follow for more AI advice for parents who want to keep their kids safe in this AI revolution.

@gdb 5.4 and 5.5 have been absolutely amazing. They've accomplished every goal I've given them so far. The problem is quota. I had to turn off "generate memories" in Codex for Windows. Still taking 2-3% quota on a new thread asking for a simple change to one small MD file.

@MikelEcheve Just found out from someone else that enabling "Generate Memories" in the Codex settings can increase quota usage significantly, so something you can check. Mine was turned on, so I'm turning it off now. Seems to be using less so far.

GPT-5.5 in Codex is powerful, no doubt. But the limits feel off. You can hit the cap before you even get into flow… 15 minutes in and you’re locked out for 5 hours. When a model burns usage this fast, it stops helping and starts interrupting.

@_Sagiquarius_ @trikcode I was wondering why Codex was suddenly using tons of my tokens (7% of my usage on the $20/mo plan from one simple ask that changed one file), and I realized after I read your comment that I had just turned "generate memories" on! Turning it off now, thanks for posting this!

Check your settings. Some memory features are chewing through your set limits faster than normal, even on pro plans. Biggest culprit is the “generate _memories” flag. $20 plans should keep memory off for now. I noticed another similar albeit less impactful bug too and reported it. Some folks, myself included, are chewing through rate limits faster than normal. @thsottiaux can you flag this for review by the team?

@thsottiaux I had never hit my 5-hour quota until yesterday. Using Codex for Windows. I switched to 5.5 and within 15 minutes, I hit the limit. I switched back to 5.4. I'm on the $19.99 monthly ChatGPT plan right now. So 5.5 is unusable for me right now with such high usage. 😞

It’s the little things that matter, what are some small papercuts you have noticed in Codex? We’ll fix as many as possible in the next week.

@thevivafrei The world Star Trek envisioned was one where anyone could create basic necessities at almost any time. No money needed. That's probably where we'll have to head. Not sure how feasible that actually is.

I don’t understand this argument. What good does “universal high income” do when all that would happen is massive inflation for the cost of goods? Awesome, now everyone’s a millionaire. And a computer now costs $20,000 because every retailer knows that everyone’s a millionaire.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

Universal HIGH INCOME via checks issued by the Federal government is the best way to deal with unemployment caused by AI. AI/robotics will produce goods & services far in excess of the increase in the money supply, so there will not be inflation.

@elonmusk Handing out money to people simply cannot be the answer. Humans were created to work. Money must be combined with work, somehow. Require people to prove community service hours, if they aren't working... something!

for a while i've had a slight fear that the bluetooth from my airpods could be frying my brain this weekend i pulled the raw data from a $30m government study of 1,679 mice blasted with cell phone radiation and reanalyzed it what i found was...not what I expected? 🧵

Codex for Windows users: have you ever seen Windows 11 Security alert you of a "Trojan:Win32/ClickFix.DAD!MTB" virus while Codex was working on files? It has happened like 3 times so far today. @OpenAIDevs

The number of people who clearly use AI to craft basic posts on this site, and replies to posts, is pretty shocking. Once you learn how to spot AI writing, you see it absolutely everywhere on here. It’s unmistakable. The tech has existed for 10 seconds and already huge swaths of people have completely given up on even the simplest forms of creative writing.

5 minutes ago, @karpathy just dropped karpathy/jobs! he scraped every job in the US economy (342 occupations from BLS), scored each one's AI exposure 0-10 using an LLM, and visualized it as a treemap. if your whole job happens on a screen you're cooked. average score across all jobs is 5.3/10. software devs: 8-9. roofers: 0-1. medical transcriptionists: 10/10 💀 karpathy.ai/jobs

I'm dealing with this right now. Progress is super slow as I click to approve so many permissions while it works. I'm not confident enough yet to enable Full Access though.

It's amusing that all of the desktop/CLI AI coding environments have so much trouble getting the permissions thing right. It's either dangerously-skip-permissions or babysit. Codex for Windows seems to ignore "Full access". Security is hard isn't it?

@xoaanya Curiosity. I've been shocked how many engineers seem to be bored with software engineering. I'm driven by curiosity, creativity, and progress. I'm having so much more fun and being way more productive with AI. Those who don't truly enjoy it won't be competitive.

@robprogressive @TheMattViera Report back when you're elderly and need people to help take care of you and realize all you've worked for will go to others who didn't work for it. Kids are one of the greatest joys in life! None of us would be here if our parents had that same viewpoint.

Not having kids is a life hack I spend my summers in Europe, take cross-country road trips, and disappear off-grid on weekends The money I’d spend on kids goes to investing, experiences, and freedom. Different priorities. Different definition of rich. ^^I saw @TheMattViera post this & I think it’s one of the reasons people are more selfish, the world is more sinister & we are more disconnected. I could not disagree with this ANY more. What do you think?

@jshengenki @FinanceLancelot To be fair, it seems a large majority of westerners are in voluntary debt. School loans, auto loans on vehicles they couldn't afford, credit card debt for crap they don't need and vacations they can't afford, daily Starbucks runs, newest smartphone, and on and on.

@FinanceLancelot Average person here’s knee deep in debt it’s by design, a car loan and vehicle servicing bills on a piece of junk is enough to keep people in perpetual debt
